Unless Ronald Volkman was actually a better player in the Parramatta District competition than Jake Arthur, but Jake Arthur got picked in junior representative sides ahead of him in any case?
Are you suggesting Jake Arthur would get preferential treatment? We would never do such a thing! Certainly wouldn't have him sit on the bench in the GRAND f**kING FINAL with no plans to play him at all!

Dont be silly.

You have to analyse really closely and at a level only available to a few posters on here, but the strategy of playing a half on the bench was one Brad Arthur pursued consistently and frequently before and after Jake Arthur's stint in first grade. It doesn't appear that way when you look at team lists, but if you have the type of intelligence possessed by Pou and Gronk, you can see things that just aren't there.

Not like it was only pursued throughout Jake's tenure at Parramatta to ensure BA's son played in first grade - as if that would happen!

It’s true - parasites rarely pay rent, especially the ideological variety.
Yeah that doesn’t really make any sense.

You’re moving the goalposts. Your entire argument for years has been about how some clubs have more resources and now it’s not related to that but how much they’re willing to spend on football operations.
Well how can financial assets help on the field if they're not being spent on football operations?
Now you’re arguing that any club that is worth a lot but isn’t having relative onfield success isn’t spending money because it might not be in their best financial interests as a business.
Yep, and this is part of the reasoning behind the NRL salary cap, as well as the FIFA FFP regulations. Just having a lot of assets doesn't mean they have the cash flow to spend more on staff or facilities, and even if they did, it doesn't mean they would want to max out their spend in that area.
This is entirely adhoc and you haven’t demonstrated this at all. How can you show that this is what is happening as opposed to a rich club not making the right off field decisions?
How could you show this rich-clubs-run-by-dummies is what's happening? If they're run by poor decision makers, why are they so rich?
As an example do you think Manchester United ability to spend dried up after Alex Ferguson left or have they just not made the right off field decisions to continue having onfield success?
I think there is just a lot more competition in the Premier League than there used to be. Some of these competitors have won titles since 2013 and they all managed it without Alex Ferguson.

Here's a pretty good thread with a few fans who know more about it than either of us:

Don't worry mate - he doesn't even know how to read financial statements. I've offered him help if he asks nicely, but the fact he hasn't even asked rudely is a fair indicator of genuineness.

Genuine troll who seems to exist to attempt to irritate others. It's fun to wind him up every now and then when bored, but you won't get serious discussion...
If you knew 'how to read financial statements', you would show us how. I'd love to see the proof that our club should be getting better results than the ones we've achieved over the past 40 years. Blaming Brad Arthur or Mark O'Neill just seems lazy, and a very clear example of recency bias.

Of course Volkman was a better player. He was so good the Roosters paid for him to move to the Eastern Suburbs at 16 and go to school at Waverley College. He played all his junior reps at Easts, from Harold Matts through to Jersey Flegg.

Hearing Brailey won't be released by the Knights for 2025 because a notable off season recruit isn't up to it...

Unlike Marlon Brando, AOB is definitely having to "go against the family" in this instance.....
Why is the merkin even notable? For having a bald father?

His not notable he has just had smoke blown up his arse since he was 8 years old and knew that he was the golden child that would always get a rails run to the top no matter how good he was.

Good riddance he is gone he was a little shit coming through the ranks and his true colours showed what the club really meant to him despite everything they gave his family when he walked out on a contract.

Well pretty much in JA and RV first year of junior reps in Matt's, back in 2018...eels finished 2nd and lost in the GF, while Roosters didn't even make the finals and finished 12th...maybe the eels did pick the better players...

Anyhow...RV, Potentially an eels junior, but went to the roosters, had a roosters deal but was released mid 2022 to go the warriors, then was released a year or so into his 3 year deal with the warriors....see a pattern......

Sean Russell, Will Penisini, Jake Arthur, Trey Mooney are the only 4 players that made FG from that side.

I see a pattern for a few of them but not much to brag about really that it was a success.

Russell is a backup at most
Penisini is a first grader that's plateaued
Mooney is still in and out of FG for Canberra
