Rumours and Stuff

Why are we the only ones doing it? Because someone at the club recognised the theoretical advantage it could give us, while other clubs didn’t recognise it or placed too high risk on it. Or in case of Smugs, don’t change a winning team.
Why have we stopped? I thought my post answered that? It’s communism, in theory it works. But ultimately it’d be difficult to maintain. It’s like Manly with Dessie’s first spin with backended contracts. It’s spinning plates.

Im sorry I just don't see it

More than likely player agents ran over the top of MON and now he has pretended to grow some stones.

The Parramatta eels outwitting the Cap. Listen to yourselves lol

They have good juniors coming thru every year but. And high quality. This year you will get to see Casey Mclean become a star

Mate you don't need to develop players you just purchase players at a higher price or buy bottom dollar players hoping they turn into quality first graders....

That's enough LU today, talk about maximum brain damage.

The Eels pulling all the strings, MON and big Jim wheeling and dealing in the shadows, only to get the coach fired and go from the GF to the Cellar.....

I don't mind splitting hairs. MON said:

"8:59
one thing that they all have and it's been noticeable and commented and acknowledged from Jason and the
9:05
assistant coaches is that they have an incredible work ethic and their stress
9:10
tolerance is very high to that physical load that they've been put through and I guess in many ways that's a testament to
9:16
Brad and the regime that he led and the coaches acknowledge that because they're able to get the volume of work into the
9:21
guys now and try and do things subtly different their own way everyone has a unique style and way they want to
9:29
do things but that work ethic has been instilled in them over many many years
9:35
which I know the current group are very grateful for"

I think sustained effort was aways an issue for a few of our forwards, and there is an inherent quality to that. No matter how fit he gets, Junior Paulo will never be able to make the repeat efforts that JFH makes, but he also won't be picked up and driven back by Ray Stone.

The way we overcame that was to try to control the ball and complete our sets. This is something we were one of the best at up until 2022 and then one of the worst these past two years: https://www.nrl.com/stats/teams/?competition=111&season=2024&stat=1000210

What changed after 2022? We got a new attacking coach, and set completions are determined by the attack.

We'll see, but I trust the current mob to make good decisions. They might be bean counters, but the good ones are open to advice from subject matter experts.
I stand corrected!

There a multiple reports of agents not getting along with MON. Why would you assume that means he got run over the top of?
I’d say it’s more of a case of MON outwitting himself (not realising the real cost of handling contracts this way) or not having the stones to double down on the practice (like back ending contracts it’s kind of an all-in method)

Just when I think I’m having a reasonable discussion, time to take my bat and ball and go home

Well, the Panthers Matt’s and Ball side haven’t qualified for the finals in the past 2 seasons, the Parra sides qualified each year, winning Ball in 2023.

Juniors tend to go in cycles and Panthers haven’t been so successful recently. See if that continues, will be at the trial at Windsor Sportsground on Saturday for Matt’s and Ball trials between the 2 teams, always a tough trial for obvious reasons.

Player agents saw us in compromised position after reed, ICE, Marata, Oregon etc all left and they took MON and the club for a ride.
That might be true. I wonder if all those player agents threatened to take Moses Brown Matterson Lane Penisini Sivo all away from us in one swoop if we didn’t roll over ?

I don't think we are saving a cent to be honest.
Also as I said for individual contracts, it’s probably not that much but also quite possibly they’d have signed for that much regardless and all we saved at the time was a bit of effort to get them signed. Long term that saving gets crunched by the effort to sign them again.

The observation would be that a strong and confident R&R team together with the coach would not allow themselves to be bent over for multiple players. Storm, Penrith and even the despise Roosters wouldn’t find themselves in that position.
