To be honest it sounds like we were never in the ballpark of the Titans offer, but you probably have to ask why considering the 17 players that we have signed up for next season.
We probably already have a bunch of re-signings and signings / offers made to new players which are yet to be announced. Also maybe we could have increased our offer but it would have meant spending less on other positions which BA didn't want to do.

Those 4 signings would turn us into a pretty bloody handy side.

If Ba would not budge on the 830k a season in sure he has plans in place for the cash, I don't think we are back to the Kearney days paying over for anyone who will look at us quite yet.

Feel better after reading that basically we stuck to a figure. What we offered Hayne was basically Foran's money. The reason why it is always reported that he was on $1.2m was that about $400k of that was dodgy TPA. During the scandal it was reported as such. That is why Foran leaving saved us a shit load because that whole amount was going to be under the cap for next season.

Hayne is just used to getting ridiculous money at the expense of the whole team.

I can see the Titans now offloading some players and as Colonel stated yesterday Elgey should be a priority. Probably the best young halfback out there after Ash Taylor.

Cronk is on record at 650k and is having third party conflicts, he is ripe for the picking and if not you can't not try for fear of rejection. We are the club with a lot of cash to splash.

I really rate the Ash Taylor he looks like he can handle first grade at such a young age. He and Elgey would not be on that much $, lets offer them a bit $$$ .

I'd be up to signing Cronk as well. 650k ??? He's being under paid in today's market.

Elgey or Cronk I would be very happy with either outcome.

That's fine, as along a team capable of finishing Top 4 next year is delivered in the end it will be all good.

"Yes Graham, it his lifelong dream to go to the Gold Coast and take the money."

View attachment 8865

In fairness to The Plane, if you looked at his press conference, he did say that not even in his wildest dreams did he think he would be playing for the Gold Coast.

People expecting him to take $500k a season less than the Gold Coast offer are just being fanciful...maybe it's their lifelong dream that The Plane plays for $500k less a year than his worth.

Cronk would be great for a year (or two?) but $1M under the cap is too much. At his age a massive season ending (and career defining) injury is hovering over him every time he takes the field.

Is it that much of a risk though? If he was to have a significant career ending injury then his salary is cap exempt, just as Watmough's was. Cronk is pretty durable so I definitely think he has another two very good years in him.

As for off-field leadership and its value, he would provide more than Watmough and Foran combined. What is that worth, particularly mentoring our current young halves in Dargan and Doolan? A mill a season for the games premier halfback at the moment isn't overs in my opinion.

The same Jackson Hastings who can't get a start in first grade at the Roosters?

No, I think the Jackson Hastings Pou was referring to is the balding overweight 38 year old divorced father of 3 Jackson Hastings currently playing A Res grade for Lalor Park.... he's promised to put in a proper pre-season over the coming summer and stay off the lighter fluid... Could be the spark we need for next year!
