Rumours and Stuff

My favourite player excelled again last game. Tepai 68m. What a legend. Now lets compare him to...oh I don't know...how about Addin Fonua-Blake, who is the same age, just one month younger who made 130m.

Now this bloke is someone that is coming along just nicely for his age and inexperience. Has some stellar running performances and some quieter ones thrown in the mix as well. Not bad for a guy who made his NRL debut against us last year in round 7. I can see him being one of the leaders of the pack in a couple of years for the Sea Eagles.

Unfortunately I can't see that for Tepai. Well not a leader by what he produces on the field anyway. Boy is Tepai a real disappointment. for all the fanfare and talent, this guy is turning out to be a real lemon. If the rumours are true that we have re-signed him on around $600k, then I'm afraid we bought a dud.

By whatever yardstick you want to throw at me, he is no where near a $600k player. I wonder how much Coen Hess is on and how much he will be on when they upgrade his next contract? Oh yeah they already have and I doubt that he is on $600k.

You do seem like a jilted ex lover, but I must say as an unashamed Tepai fan, (and I'm sorry to do this to Ram's rivals) for 80 minutes of work you do make a good point. I think he was playing busted (the replay shows him reaching for his ribs plenty of times, and he was in an orange shirt yesterday at training; along with 9 other blokes in our starting 13), but you make a good point. There is some scope to argue that Tepai is vastly superior to either of the players you mention in defence, but nonetheless it's still a tough case to argue if he's not injured. For the record, I think 600k is vastly exaggerated, but it doesn't really change your the crux of your argument. It's also worth noting Tep did have some superior other attacking figures (as mentioned by Pou above).

Fonua-Blake got zero of any of those stats. Wow.

But the roll on, direct running and quick play the balls he contributes to the team blows Tepai's general contribution out of the water. WOW!

It's all about the ruck baby, it's all about the ruck. WOW!

AFB is averaging approx 107m a game and a massive 16 tackles.

Moeroa is averaging just a bit less at 91 m and a lot more tackles at 29 tackles!!

But Moeroa can play both edge and middle. Additionally when attacking on the edge alot depends on how good your half is. Moeroa hasn't really had a chance to build a combo with a half partner yet.

And now finally after getting a quality half partner, he has 5 tackle busts, 2 Line breaks and 2 tries in two weeks.

@TheRam is right to an extent.

Tepai has been somewhat disappointing since he debuted as an 18 year old with huge wraps on him.
There have been some valid reasons for this I am sure and while he has been underwhelming for a lot of the time, he is starting to show more of the promise he displayed early on.

Hopefully with Moses as a more settled half and someone who can get him good ball in good position, we will see this improvement continue. BA's plans for Tepai in 2015 and 2016 seemed to be about improving his defence and providing a solid hit-up option. Probably a legacy of the unsettled halves inside him.

BA re-signed him for a reason and at a price he believed was ok.
So far most of his signings have been spot on so this one shouldn't be considered any different.
