If Cartwright is on minimum wage for 1 season, then realistically how bad could he be?
I think the biggest criticism of Cartwright, and I'm certainly one of those, has more often than not been around the amount of money he was being paid. If you're paying someone $400k-$500k when he was at the Panthers, and then marquee player money like $800k at the Titans, then there are certain expectations that come with the amount of money that you're getting. I would be the first to admit that Bryce Cartwright has failed to come close to meeting those expectations, but how much do you really expect from a bloke on $110k? At minimum wage, he replaces the equivalent income of Jaemon Salmon, Jai Field, Rhys Davies, et al. in the squad and is likely on the same sort of money as a player like Ray Stone...I suggest he could potentially provide significantly more off the bench than all of those players combined.
If he doesn't train well he won't get a game, if he doesn't play well when given the chance he won't be used again, if he doesn't have a good season he won't be given another gig here.
Again, if he is getting minimum wage, there isn't one other player in the NRL who would be paid minimum wage that has the potential to provide what Cartwright can.
