These are the signings you want. Low risk high reward. Oldfield is just low low amd low reward. Boring signing.

Oldfield is a boring uninspiring signing (if it occurs it’s only a rumour) however say we have a certain structure to our squad and we want a 4th specialist winger in the top 30 (that’s how our squad was structured this year). Someone, as cheap as we can get. Oldfield provides that. Gives us cover on a minimum contract who we hopefully don’t have to use. And he brings some experience.

We already Fergo/ Sivo, then Dunster who looks likely to be the first back up, plus potentially some backs on development contracts.

I'd rather him approach Origin form but not get selected. Like all of our players.

Frankly I reckon he makes a handy bench player.

Bryce fell into the trap of ball play to early.
He needs to run first and ball play 2nd. Him and Matterson on the edge would be a dual threat. Lane on bench for 20 out wide and 20 in middle.

He’s a complete dick.

Hate everything he and his dumbass wife sprout.

In saying that - it’s fairly low risk for the club if he’s on minimum wage. If his attitude or work ethic is shit, we just sack him. I don’t see him getting near the first grade team unless we have crazy injuries or during origin period.

If Cartwright is on minimum wage for 1 season, then realistically how bad could he be?

I think the biggest criticism of Cartwright, and I'm certainly one of those, has more often than not been around the amount of money he was being paid. If you're paying someone $400k-$500k when he was at the Panthers, and then marquee player money like $800k at the Titans, then there are certain expectations that come with the amount of money that you're getting. I would be the first to admit that Bryce Cartwright has failed to come close to meeting those expectations, but how much do you really expect from a bloke on $110k? At minimum wage, he replaces the equivalent income of Jaemon Salmon, Jai Field, Rhys Davies, et al. in the squad and is likely on the same sort of money as a player like Ray Stone...I suggest he could potentially provide significantly more off the bench than all of those players combined.

If he doesn't train well he won't get a game, if he doesn't play well when given the chance he won't be used again, if he doesn't have a good season he won't be given another gig here.

Again, if he is getting minimum wage, there isn't one other player in the NRL who would be paid minimum wage that has the potential to provide what Cartwright can.

maybe a few years ago, but reckon now our squad has a few leaders / stronger culture where any crap wouIdn’t be accepted. In the early days with us, he will know what the expectations/standards are.

Reckon worse case scenario is he quits during the pre season as it’s to “hard” or he just doesn’t play well enough and spends the year in NSW cup.

Hope so, mate.

I brought up Cartwright as a potential signing to my mates a couple months ago. The bloke is a dick. It’s all about his attitude. If he wants to play and better himself as a player, he can be anything. If it’s anything but, he could be disruptive to the squad.
He was awesome in 2016. It's odd to peak at 22 though.
