Can you do some f**king research before parroting what the media wants you to be pissy about. Robson was contracted until the end of 2023: https://www.cowboys.com.au/news/2019/08/12/cowboys-sign-junior-kangaroo/

"Junior Kangaroos hooker Reece Robson has agreed to a four-year deal with the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys beginning in 2020 and running through the end of the 2023 season."
I did my research and I knew he wasnt off-contract until 2023.

Read the article clearly

Cowboys were shopping him around when we flicked Mahoney. Instead we signed Hodgson. One got medically retired within 12 games and the other has played 5 games for NSW in the past 2 years.

Robson, the former St George-Illawarra junior now at the Cowboys, isn‘t off-contract until the end of 2023.

However, with the Cowboys working hard to secure Storm star Brandon Smith, on top of re-signing young hooker Reuben Cotter on Wednesday until 2025, Robson’s name has been bandied to rival clubs, including the Eels.

Those aware of Robson being shopped believe it’s an indication that he may achieve an early release from his Cowboys deal to return to Sydney.

Nope i would be going after Vunivalu whose getting a release from Australian Rugby.

Addo-Carr is damaged goods and who would want a bloke that's missing 4 games already next year thats proven multiple times he can't stay out of trouble off the field.
Vunivalu - I would normally say no chance because we are Parra, but the way Ryles is going about his business and the Melbourne connection gives me genuine hope.

how good would it be to secure a group like Vunivalu for next year and the likes of Mozer, Leo Thompson and Savage/Stonestreet in 2026 (after some careful loading on existing players with Gutho's money for next year as Pou rightly identifies)

The first time we lose and Gutherson has a good game for the Dragons it'll be all MON's fault for letting him go. By round 12 Ryles will be on the shit list as well. The Broncos will be in the top four and wE sHoUlD'vE gOtTeN f**KeN mAdGe FfS!!1!

The fact he re-signed there tells me the DT are spinning bullshit. Robson was the Cowboys' first choice hooker at the time Mahoney signed with Canterbury. Cotter hadn't played hooker since the previous year. Robson started 24 games at hooker the year this article came out (late 2021) and has started 72 games in the three years since. Robson's manager might've wanted him to get a release to chase the money in Sydney but there's no chance the Cowboys wanted it.

Cowboys had gone dog shit in 2020 & 2021.

They didn't hit there straps until 2022.

There was nothing stopping that speculation being true in November 2021 that Robson was available for clubs if they wanted him.

Robson may have come back to Sydney if we offered a fair deal.

I guess we will never know.

Whatever spin you will want to put on it history will always show what a diabolical decision it was to sign Josh Hodgson no matter what leadership he may have brought.

We haven't made the finals since he arrived so clearly it rubbed off on the playing group.

No we won't but Robson was a gun from the minute arrived at the Cowboys: https://www.nrl.com/players/nrl-premiership/cowboys/reece-robson/

If there was talk about a release it would've been coming from his manager who wanted a pay increase for him.

Josh Hodgson was injured literally five minutes after we signed him. A season ending injury in round one ffs. And then after recovering, he joined an Eels pack that was smashed with injuries that year, including his own neck injury:

Obviously we need a hooker and I wouId be looking for a second rower for the long term. An experienced hooker wouId be good, but we could sign a rookie second rower (even on overs, based on potential) as we have got the depth to give them time to develop....

We also need a back, but it's hard to say if we need to spend big for an experience one or one for depth....we have some young talent who could come starters in the next 12 months, Pensini jr, the dogs duo....

I know plenty would disagree, but reckon JAC could be a fair option. He has the talent, some X factor, but his options are pretty limited now so could be cheap. If he was willing to take a pretty cheap 1 year contract (like $250k or so), I reckon it would be a pretty low risk signing. His form wasn't terrible this year, and still has his speed...

Lomax and JAC on the wings, definitely transforms our backline.....

Triple M in Bris Vegas just linked us with Pappy in their sports section. Said we are keen on him apparently. Take it with a grain I guess, but file under smoke/fire too.

As an outsider, its a "bold move cotton" to punt Guffo & RCG, two of the most reliable performers for a team that barely scraped away from the spoon.

Also as a bitter twisted fan of a struggling club that Cameron Ciraldo laughed at when we asked him to coach us, I also revelled in his first year at the Dogs and his (Gus's?) addiction to late night drunk internet shopping utilities, but have to say that Ciraldo knew what he was doing.

Will be interesting to see how Ryles bold moves pan out.

There is no way JAC is signing anything for 250k. He’s 29 so there’s a few years left in him yet. For what it’s worth, I’d take him on a wing too on the right deal, cos I’d back Ryles to get the best out of him.

The game has changed a lot since Vunivalu has left. I think about the conversation when Parra (or Tigers) look at signing a 30yo winger like Vunivalu, JAC or Sivo.

"Ok what we want from you is your primary role is to catch the ball 10m out from your own line and with the entire opposition defensive line running at you with a 10 second head start, we want you to tuck the ball under your arm and run as fast and hard as you can into the teeth of those guys, and we would appreciate it if you could do it 20 times a game and in return we will pay you in the bottom 25% percentile of your trade.......we good?"

3 months ago, I wouId definitely agree he aren't taking $250k

But right now, if he wants to stay in the NRL, I don't see any club offering anything near what he wants or is on....sort of the likely carty situation from a few years back...

One thing on JAC, he fitted into the Storm culture......he is probably is perfect for what Ryles is trying to achieve, as he knows and has experienced the standards required....

I don't reckon we need a back, at least not as urgently as a hooker (should be our next big purchase) and an edge forward.

So we have discarded a lot of experience and have a war chest that mostly must to be spent in 2025.
I assume you can still frontload 2025 to a certain extent to create room for 2026?
We have one elite signing in Lomax.
One established worker in Williams.
One backup in Hawkins.
And 2 kids with (a lot) of potential.
We need some established first graders to fill the void in 2025.
Will be an interesting preseason.
