Rumours and Stuff

So we have discarded a lot of experience and have a war chest that mostly must to be spent in 2025.
I assume you can still frontload 2025 to a certain extent to create room for 2026?
We have one elite signing in Lomax.
One established worker in Williams.
One backup in Hawkins.
And 2 kids with (a lot) of potential.
We need some established first graders to fill the void in 2025.
Will be an interesting preseason.

See what happens with Paps in Melb. If he re-signs with Melb go after Faalogo (spelling) break the bank for him. If you’re looking for an xfactor he’s the one.

Option 2 would be to front load 2025, blood juniors. That would mean no expectations next year. But will have a much better war chest for 26 to really sign some key players.

I’d be wrapped with JAC. They offered him to everyone via his manager and he got no interest. Hence why Dogs want to sack him as they preferred to let him go freely. So maybe his options are extremely limited.
Interesting. He’s still got the plenty of zip. Just not as much as the Hammer over 100m :D

Faalogo is under contract until 2027, he isn't going anywhere......no chance Storm will let him go....

Mate I have heard this for the last 3 years... we are always keen but having Gutho on the books has meant we have missed out (before).
Jam & Cheese talk about Paps in their latest podcast. Cheese proposed that the Eels take him and Paps as a package. :p

Cowboys were shopping him around when we flicked Mahoney. Instead we signed Hodgson. One got medically retired within 12 games and the other has played 5 games for NSW in the past 2 years.

Robson, the former St George-Illawarra junior now at the Cowboys, isn‘t off-contract until the end of 2023.

However, with the Cowboys working hard to secure Storm star Brandon Smith, on top of re-signing young hooker Reuben Cotter on Wednesday until 2025, Robson’s name has been bandied to rival clubs, including the Eels.

Those aware of Robson being shopped believe it’s an indication that he may achieve an early release from his Cowboys deal to return to Sydney.

I hope we re-appoint Brad Arthur just to sack him again

Any merkin can indeed cut and dice… but how many do in their rookie year as coach? I’m leaning towards hardly fkn anyone.

The easiest and perhaps safest thing for Ryles to do is let RCG, Gutho and Sivo play out their contract and see if he can get them to go to the well for him one last time and improve on this season’s third last finish. If he did that, he’d be getting the backslaps for improving the finishing position.

But he’s said fk that. The man has a vision for what he wants this team to look like and he’s made ruthless calls and freed up a ton of cash and reshaped our roster from the get go. He’s also said to others like Matto, you’re free to go if you find a suitor. It’s really “buy in or fk off”.

Iongi is going to be a special talent. More of his ilk and we are trending in the right direction. We are watching the immediate future of club being shaped before our eyes. I’m genuinely pumped.

OKay if you say so, but I'll count the chickens after they have hatched. After all this is Parra not Trump and the art of the deal.

How many hundreds of thousands of dollars do you think he'd give up for that fairy tale? NRL players earn so much money these days that most of them will play anywhere for any club up to the very last year they can get a contract rather than retire so they can focus on whatever shitty career awaits them afterwards. $200k is a fairly low salary by NRL standards, the type of money paid to a quality backup (like the third best half at a club) or the worst player in the top 17 (maybe a centre or bench forward). But $200k is plenty more than most people earn, including retired NRL players. I'd be surprised if Gutherson doesn't keep playing until no club wants him.
He has a bunch of things to weigh up. I reckon he's got one, possibly two seasons left in him. Of course, he can always find a club in the English Super League if things go pear shaped here. His options are varied, including some form of a media gig. We don't know how long his body will hold up or his desire to keep pushing through. But considering he's a goner then there's no need for further discussion about it from my point of view.

Terrell May was just released by the Roosters. Option?

He is on $950K over 2 years I believe. If we can sign him for around $400-450K then he would be great value for money and would help in addressing our weakness up front for next season. A solid 1st grade front rower on that sort of money is the sweet spot for any salary cap. Isn't elite but isn't crap either, not many clubs would offer him more and he will be value for money.

I'd offer him 3 years on $400-450K and that should do it. He may even surprise and improve a little further with extra fitness and maturity as many front rowers do. Good unexpected value if we can get it done.
