When Phil Gould took over at Penrith in 2011, one of the first calls he had to make was to his mate James Packer to save the club.

Interesting that Gould was sacked in 2019 and Penrith became a powerhouse from 2020. Apparently Gould wanted Bennett as coach, and as good as he is, I doubt he would have bought them premierships, just finals. Bennett's days of winning a premiership are past him imo and I believe (hope) that Ryles will become a winner and is making the right moves to refresh our roster. If we add Paps to the roster we'll have 3 positions covered with plenty of experience and firepower to challenge for a premiership starting this year rather than next year. Exciting times ahead.

I’d argue that Ryles has a stronger pedigree than BA did before joining us nine years ago.

Ryles played first grader for starters and represented his country and state on numerous occasions.

BA greatest achievement as a player must be captain coach at Batemans Bay with the dimwit currently coaching Newcastle.

Ryles has gone out and hung around more successful coaches and systems like Eddie Jones, Robinson and Bellamy.

Outside of Bellamy who else was Arthur senior assistant too outside of Kearney and Toovey.

Toovey had as much tactics as Arthur and Kearney was a complete dud.

I have a feeling we are going to see a pretty special version of Hopgood this year… I’d actually love a hooker signing for 25 as well as a back rower/edge player that’s super damaging.

But yeah, put me down for Hoppy becoming a serious leader for us in field.
