Well it cant be down to resources because the Cronulla Sharks have missed the finals twice since 2011.

11 finals series in 13 years

Missed out in
2014 - Peptide saga where they came last
2021 - Missed the finals by 1 game.

And there a small tinpot club with SFA resources compared to us.

The issue of the last few years is still there

From the published 25 under contract, there are 3 halves, 7 backs which include 2 new fullbacks and Dunster and 15 forwards.

Until the backs are added to and at least another half, prop and possibly better hooker, we will continue to tread water. Can’t expect 18/19 year olds to fill those gaps, they need time , maturity and experience.

My observation so expect Pou to join in and say all is well.

Penrith have only two more backs than us and three of the 12 are teenagers. Nothing's stopping us from just upgrading a couple of kids to the top 30. It's what the smart clubs do. Jesse McLean has been in the top 30 for a couple of years and only played two NRL games. We got more out of Tago ffs and didn't need to blow a top 30 spot.

The point I am making, and surely must now spell out, is that the bottom of the top 30 is functionally no different from the merkins on the supplementary list or train-and-trial. What this means is that counting the number of merkins in the top 30 is f**king dumb.

The Auckland Nines is where it's at winning with a bunch of plodders like Ryan Morgan, Peni Terepo, Vai Toutai, Luke Kelly, Mitch Cornish, Cameron King, Cody Nelson, David Gower.

We had to cheat to win it but you can never take that glorious moment off us.

The Roosters had Brad Fittler playing for them in that competition, FFS!
Should have challenged getting that taken away from us in court.

On Blaize I don't understand how we didn't offer him the 5/8 role move Brown to 1 and Gutho to the Dragons..

Brown to 1 may have unlocked his running game ala Hayne in 09 started at 5/8 but was very limited moved to fullback bang..

All I can think of is that Brown's defence in the line is too important.
