Brailey to Parra which will free up cap space for Matt Lodge to go to Newcastle whose father in law is Peter O'Sullivan the new recruitment officer.

Matt Lodge has confirmed he has quit Manly but the former Broncos enforcer insists his NRL career is not over.
The controversial prop is adamant he will not be forced into early retirement and will definitely be playing in the NRL next season.

Lodge was hoping to stay at the Sea Eagles next season, but the parties were unable to agree terms after Manly tabled a two-year deal worth around $150,000 a season.

Lodge has played for five NRL clubs since his debut for Wests Tigers in 2014 and is poised to ink a deal with his sixth team.

Lodge refused to disclose the identity of the club – he has been linked with the Dragons – but insists he will not be moving to the English Super League.

“I will definitely be playing in the NRL next year,” he said.

“It’s good to know I will have my future sorted.

“I had a tough start to the year but when I got healthy, I finished the year well with Manly.

“If I didn’t know I had plenty left in the tank, I wouldn’t be playing on, but I’m excited about the years ahead and I will be ready to go next year.”

The 29-year-old prop accepts the Sea Eagles have salary-cap pressures and has no issue with Manly coach Anthony Seibold.

“They offered me a two-year deal,” he said.

“They wanted me to play that starting role with Taniela (Paseka), but it takes a toll on your body doing that.

“It was a lot to ask to do two years as a starting front-rower for minimum wage.

“I really thought about it, I wanted to meet them in the middle somewhere, but they had no salary cap space.

“I am fine with ‘Seibs’ and everyone at Manly, but I can’t play for that amount when that sort of money is given to a kid just coming out of a school who hasn’t played a game of NRL.

“I loved the club and the squad of players, but I have four boys and bills to pay, so I had to look after my future.”

God, I'm so sick of all these props being labelled as "enforcers"...

Every single time there is an article that mentions a prop, they label him an "enforcer"....

Martin Taupau
Tevita Pangai Jnr
Matt Lodge

Enough, already, please....

Same as any player under the age of 21 regardless of ability being labelled a "young gun".... Head News Ltd Hack James Hooper is notorious for overuse of that term...

Addo-Carr is a great signing. The guy is one of the best wingers in the game and speed to burn. I couldn't care less about his di*khead character. His laugh is more annoying to me because I have to hear it, but I don't hang out with him so who gives a toss about his di*kheadness?

As for him disrupting others at the club, I don't think Ryles will take kindly to that, especially being his rookie season and all, he will make sure that the Fox and or everyone else adheres to his law.

We will have a sh*t hot backline next season(barring injury) as long as whoever ends up as our permanent fullback measures up well on both sides of the ball.

If we can snag May up front our forwards too should at least hold their own, if indeed Ryles does get that extra fitness into the squad. Sure dummy half can be better, but Hands is better then most here give him credit for. But we will desperately need a Alpha prop that can dominate the middle. Paulo will never be that guy, like RCG used to.

If Ryle does choose Lomax at centre, who ends up with who?

Lomax and JAC together could be insane but initial thoughts would be to have Penisini learn off the talk, backslaps and defensive attitude near JAC and Simonsen could be strengthened by Lomax the other side.

Thoughts?

When I see a journo label someone as an 'enforcer' all I'm imagining is a big forward who gives away too many penalties and is suspended for a quarter of the season.

When they stick 'boom' in front of something.

"Boom rookie Blaize Talagi".
"Boom fullback Isaiah Iongi"
etc.
