I was thinking about our team yesterday, and we seem a little light on troops up front:

12. Matterson
13. Hopgood

Once I got past Moses, the pack was hard to try to define.

We could use a hooker, and some second-rowers, imo.

Serious question...is May really that good? I don't see what the noise is all about. Don't get me wrong would've been good to get him, but the money he reportedly signed is nothing short of ridiculous...
We are pretty stacked with middle forwards.
Paulo, Joe O, Williams, Hopgood, Lane, Moretti, Guymer, Greig, Matto
I think some of these guys go up a gear next yr.
I would love to see 2 more signings.

Hopefully Tuilagi continues to improve. Seems to be a bit like Doorey, runs a good line but not that fit, makes poor defensive decisions and gets hurt a bit.
Carty started the year strongly this year, then got injured (I suspect he was playing injured for part of the year even when he came back) and didn't really get going without Moses on his edge. I think he'll take one starting spot.
In the middle I'd start with Matto, Junior and Hopgood, with Williams and Ofahengaue on the bench. Lane probably gets a bench spot and hopefully we sign a utility/9 to fill the 14 (or Hands fills that spot)

The former Melbourne centre with the locks. Also played for NSW & Australia in the mid 2000s

Matt King is probably the best candidate going around tbh for the NSW gig.

He has done a 10 year apprenticeship similar to Ryles spent time at the Roosters under Robbo.

Went and worked under Michael Cheika with Lebanon at the RLWC. Ryles went and learned from Eddie Jones.

King was serving as assistant under Madge at Souths in 2014 when they won the comp and was assistant for NSW this year which was a successful series.

King and Hannay are probably the 2 best young coaches still yet to crack it at the NRL and the fact King hasn't promoted himself i think serves him well.

Also played under Bellamy.

So if everyone on here is a happy to suck up to Ryles and the apprenticeship he has done then Matt King has done a pretty similar one.

Yeah i hope they go with King tbh. The rest of the candidates are pretty ordinary.

When you actually dive in and look at his resume its pretty similar to Ryles which everyone on here is doing handstands about.

And King was part of the NSW staff this year that won. Whenever he is interviewed he seems like a measured individual but knows what winning looks like.

Daley had his chance and won what 1 series from 5 please need to move forward not in the past.

Weekend Read: Matt King has built the right resume to take over from Michael Maguire at the Blues​

Plenty of names have already been floated but it appears the one certainty is that assistant coach Matt King will be near the top of the list.

King has quietly gone about building one of the most impressive resumes in the coaching game. He played nine games for the Blues himself and when he retired, joined South Sydney’s coaching staff and helped the club break their premiership drought.

He moved to the Sydney Roosters at the end of 2016 and has been there ever since, a period in which the club has enjoyed sustained success.

It’s easy to forget King was a hell of a player. He quit at a young age, worked as a garbage collector among other things, and then returned to the game with the Melbourne Storm.

Those who know him suggest he has the makings of a quality coach as well. Remarkably, despite his credentials, his name is rarely mentioned when club roles are discussed.

Perhaps it is because he doesn’t go out of his way to promote himself. He is happy to work in the background and play the role of loyal lieutenant.

He hasn’t come out and said he wants the NSW job but this column has been told he won’t say no if he is asked. The beauty of King is that he worked alongside Michael Maguire last year so he knows what it takes to win a State of Origin series.

The Blues hierarchy have been told that continuity and consistency is the key after this year’s performance. The vast majority of staff will remain in place. King will be there regardless.

He can't be selected for any game as he's suspended so how can they count? He would have been picked for the All Stars game so that counts, just like origin counts for suspension if the player was picked previously.
