2005 was worse then 2001 on a multitude of levels.

1 - It allowed the Wests Tigers to win the premiership
2 - Losing to an interstate side from Townsville that had to travel to Sydney 3 weeks in a row in the leadup while we had a week off and hadn't left Sydney for nearly 6 weeks.
3 - We just didn't get beat we got walloped in probably the most embarrassing preliminary final performance a minor premier has dished up in the past 25 years.
4 - We had more finals experience then the Cowboys side who had Thurston who wasn't at his peak but not much else outside of Matt Bowen they were actually missing Carl Webb there physical enforcer who was suspended.
5 - We flogged them by 50 in the regular season with an inferior backline that we had on prelim final day.
Yeah but we were talking specifically about Grand Finals

Not in 2001.

Sure we had a team that played exceptionally well that year.

But go back and have a look at the two grand final teams from 2001. We had a bunch of talented kids. Newcastle had a bunch of experienced representative players.

We may have had the better year in the regular season, but that Knights squad was a better team than ours in the long run.

By the sounds of these posts, we just need to wait for that Unicorn year when every team is incredibly and demonstrably inferior to us...

interesting take on our moves on contracts and recruitment, understandably Pou will circularly argue it’s a good problem and the R&R team did them for a very good reason. There are reportedly moves to see if 5hey can be removed for the good of the club go8ng forward, doesn’t seem they were favourable to the club from the get go.

Hopefully we come out the other side without getting bitten in the rear

The Mole has just caught up with our signing of Jack Hudson.

He main story os that he reckons that a Sydney Club is sick of their coach and wants to sign Flanno from 2026 onwards. Sounds like Mole is doing Flanno a favour on his extension negs. Otherwise, who else would it be ?

Ironically, the team concerned hasn't been travelling too badly but the committee and chief executive believe the club needs a change of direction and a fresh face to mentor its players.

So we have now signed Jack Hudson? he is 19 years old and a couple years off?

That means we now have 4 rakes on the books? Lussick, Hands, Smith and Hudson?

It seems we have opted against an experienced 9. How does all that work out...

I didnt see it mention sydney club.

But if there was coach that is under pressure next year and a club that may need a fresh face its the Cowboys.

Todd Payten has had an origin quality roster for 4 years and only has what a prelim final choke/disaster against us to show for it. IMO they have underachieved under him.

I reckon its BS anyway and Flanagan putting pressure on the Dragons to extend him.
Reckon its Robinson at Rorters, had incredible players, and nothing to show for it since 2018.

Sometimes you get lucky and play the team that ran 4th, like the Tigers did in 2005.
Sometimes you get lucky and play a better team who just doesn't play their best on the day, like Sharks beating Storm in 2016.

In both cases you still have to play well in order to win. We didn't do that in any of ours.

The 01 GF was a choke of Reilly Reid proportions.

We got ambushed by a more experienced team.
Definitely were a bit 'deer in the headlights' in the first half and never were able to catch up.
To lose that GF would not have been a huge surprise in hindsight, but a 24-0 first half score was definitely a choke.

Can we get Scott Pryde the author of this article to have a catchup with Pou.

So Pou can educate Scott on the main reason we use POs and what it means.

Clearly there is a massive gap of education that is missing from what Pou thinks to what 90% of the Rugby League following people think when it comes to the positives & negatives are POs.

We already know the negatives for the club with player options. We've been through all this already.

The choice is to either include the options or not sign the player. Or sign them for more money, meaning we sign worse players elsewhere in the team.

Which would you rather?
