Interesting

The "facilities" metric which Souths nabbed is because of the Heffron Park COE. It looks big, but part of THEIR funding model is that it is a community facility and must be shared with the people of SE Sydney. So, much of the indoor space is common.

The eels COE is funded differently.

It appears that Ryles thinks differently (based on him not going after May or Thompson) as maybe believes one of the juniors will step up or going for light weight props in Lane, Williams, Moretti and Matterson. Although none of them appear to have any mongrel as Penrith has/had in Moses and JFH. To me mongrel is the missing ingredient needed to win a grand final (can we clone Ray Price?).

Or maybe they were to expensive seeing he just got rid of a player that is just as good if not better than either of them and at the lowest price in the final year of his contract by what was reported. It wouldn't look to smart to pay an equal or more amount for a player that is still to prove himself to be worth top dollar money.

Yes mongrel is a great and essential quality that we have been missing for quite a while as has genuine speed. At least it would seem that Ryles is addressing the speed deficiency. Now if he can address the defensive issue and throw a little mongrel in as well we will finally be set to be at least a genuine top 4 team and have a real shot at winning the damned thing at long last.

But the clock is ticking. Moses only has 3 or 4 at his peek years left. Next year won't be a title winning year, so at best the title winning window will at best open in 2026 and if we maintain or improve from there we may still have 2027, 2028 and if really lucky 2029.

Then Moses may or may not be anywhere near his best after that. Realistically I think if we develop and recruit well, we will have 26, 27 and 28, then rebuild again if all goes well.

Junior Paulo has lost 10kgs,
Zac Lomax the favourite to take over the goal-kicking.

Ryles has identified early, his intention to improve their defence.

Players have also revealed how the former Melbourne Storm and Sydney Roosters assistant coach had simplified their defensive structure, making it easier for players to understand their roles.

Most interesting thing I found in that article is Lomax has apparently stated he is moving to left centre (no actual quotes) to be inside Fox. Interesting as I've read previously that Penisini has been training on the left.

Maybe Ryles hasn't liked what he has seen with that combo and is going to change it up.

I think it was a bit of a myth that he failed in that spot at the Dragons, they were dogshit prior and Hook threw him there as a Hail Mary and I think he was probably trying too hard to make things happen.

In saying that I would prefer they split Lomax and JAC just to even out the edges a bit. Otherwise we are going to be super left side dominant, Brown, Tuilagi, Lomax, JAC.

I think news outlets are assuming Lomax is moving to the left. From all I’ve heard penisini is training next to the fox on the left edge

The High Court overturned the Federal Court decision to force News to allow Souffs back in so yes, in fact the NRL let them back in.

The legal arguments around exclusion and eventual reinclusion were fascinating. And I think anytime anyone thinks of mentioning restraint of trade on here perhaps have a look over this case beforehand

I think anytime anyone thinks of mentioning the Federal Court Case News Ltd v South Sydney as pertinent regarding restraint of trade should have a look over the High Court case that overturned the Federal Court case because of.....you know.....lack of restrain of trade. Fascinating.

You’ve already proven you don’t actually know the legalities of restraints of trade so perhaps you should read both cases

No need to “lay the boot in” for a bloke that’s no longer there. If we are doing well next year we can just enjoy it.

I may be misreading you, but you appear to be waiting until next year before you enjoy "laying the boot in"?

Each to their own I suppose.
Plenty of boots to go around, if you choose to wait I'm sure you won't miss out.

Geographically we probably don’t need Souths but the Roosters and Rabbits rivalry is highly enjoyable and good for the game^.
Without both Manly and North’s there would literally be no team representing the Northern Beaches *and* the entire zone between North Sydney and the central coast, including part of the hills (Pennant Hills etc) and the north west, where AFL has made inroads. That would be lot of real estate with no team. It’s a small loss not having a North Sydney based team but not exactly damaging, as would be the case not having Manly as well.
So yeah, I hate seeing Manly succeed but we need them. Sadly we don’t beat them often enough.

^When us and the Dogs are firing it’s as good, if not better, for the game.
I think as well, rather than looking at geographic areas and their need for a team, population size should be a factor as well. Sydney has over 5 million people and somewhere between 10% (rabid) and 40% ('non-practicing') of them would be NRL fans. The Sydney market should be able to service a lot of NRL clubs.
