The Arthur boys were absolute myths supported by the hype machine of the rugby league media and social media.

Once some fans with web and social media presence (like TCT) start relentlessly hyping them (in Matt's case it was borderline uncomfortable), other fans start joining the hype train and that leads to media outlets consistently referring to them as the "next big thing"....without ever really looking at their individual abilities.

This is how they get picked....and it all starts with a certain fanbase talking up BA's kids to ingratiate themselves for "access", particularly so with a coach who denied access to many other fans and media as part of an us against them mentality.

Both performed to a high standard in reserve grade while still eligible for Flegg. In Matt’s case he was still eligible for SG Ball.

This is why other NRL clubs were willing to ‘waste’ a top 30 spot on them. If you think it’s because of media hype, you’re projecting your stupidity onto them.

He didn't leave because he wanted to, he was sacked. And the board appointed Cleary against his objections. You have to remember he appointed coaches then sacked them saying they couldn't coach. So his judgement was flawed but hay, not his fault they couldn't coach. Cleary was sacked originally because he was 'tired' so maybe could coach but Gould didn't let him sleep apparently. Other people established the systems but he may have appointed them. He probably could rest on his laurels because of that but if he was still there, there would probably still be a revolving door of coaches and no premierships to show for it.

I believe how it went was:
Gould didn’t want Cleary back. Cleary wasn’t a ‘yes’ man like Gus wanted which is why he brought in Griffin. Penrith board were afraid of losing Nathan so wanted to bring back Ivan to give him more reason to stay. Gus didn’t want that. They sacked Gus, hired Cleary and re-signed Nathan. Hindy111 got sad because his favourite team sacked his hero.

Then they went and won grand finals, so hindy111 was happy again. They still couldn’t win the World Club Challenge though, so job’s not done yet.

I would say a better marker would be Jake played 22 FG games for Parramatta.

Will he double the mark elsewhere without his father picking him.

He has 6 games under his belt under Seibold at Manly.

So he has 16 more games to reach the same mark he did at Parramatta.
