I understand that Matto went to market briefly and got no interest based on his concussion history, so he took up the option to secure himself for 2 more years. Lane has a career planned for beyond footy and always seems to be a little bit laid back so no surprise he took the option as it keeps him settled where he is.
Drown has less after football options available to him and despite what posters on LU think about him, he is talked up pretty high in the football world and barring injury, is the current Kiwi five-eighth. Makes perfect sense that his manager would test the market each and every time his contract comes up.

Also not sure how you get the impression he isn't happy at Parra. Has never said anything other than how much he loves the club and the area and has never personally given any indication that he wants to leave - his manager just wants to make sure he is paid what the market thinks he is worth and is doing his job (and trying to increase his commission).

The media are sensationalising everything because (1) it's Parramatta, (2) it's a boring off-season and (3) it's Parramatta. Don't buy into their crap mate, you are better than that.

I disagree. It isn't like he is on 600k. Word is 900k. His forms been patchy and he also sexualy assaulted a women whilst the club stood by him. It's a great offer.
His manager would know his worth. All 16 other clubs/managers would know he is available for 2026 due to the POs in his contract. It was hardly a secret and any clubs that where genuinely interested would of made contact by now knowing he hasn't activated his PO.
If he is happy at the club which maybe he is 100% then this is just a milking exercise.

People like to say how he only has 10-12yrs to make as much money as he can. While this is true maybe our club should introduce training and preparing for life after footy. Maybe they already do? If not this might be an opportunity for us to take advantage of. A selling point where we will help players return to workforce if are at clubs for 5yrs. Perhaps courses/apprenticeships etc.

So we agree then.

I said "his manager just wants to make sure he is paid what the market thinks he is worth." and you said "this is just a milking exercise."

A better question is why Dylan Brown is looking for an upgrade rather than keep his options.
Simple, he is looking to renegotiate his contract at a much higher price without the POs.

His agent will go to the club and say 'Look Dyl has been offered $1.2m by X Club for 3 years and will sign a new contract at that price to stay.'
Ryles will say 'That's alright, off you go at end of the year, we now have other plans at a much cheaper price.'
At which time agent will say, 'Wwhat......I was only bluffing.'
JR 'OK, we'll get a new contract to you, 3 years starting at $700k increasing by $100k each year.'
Agent, dejected. 'Dyl will exercise his PO in his current contract.'
JR walks away smirking.

Yep. The idea he has to go to market is false.
Matto and Lane didn't bother. Obviously on way overs and knew nothing else better would get close.
Dylans manager would know if he can get much extra. The fact he is on 900k rumoured is going to limit how much more he can get. I doubt more then 100k.
Plenty of people happy at their jobs aren't leaving if paid well and love it. I get the impression perhaps he isn't that happy at the club but I also think he will stay based on no offers much better.
Maybe Ryles has expectations which don’t fit it with Dylan’s values, he should go, doing nothing but disrupting prep, it’s like Brad is still there, getting rid of DB will rid the last bit of stank which was Brad and his disciples!!!!

Brown is just doing what he learnt of his former skipper, monkey see monkey do.

He’s the last of the Bea Arthur yes men so maybe him going suits all parties?? I doubt Ryles is happy this is dragging into our prep for this season.

We don't know what his manager has said or what Dylan's told his manager. It is possible he has said I want to stay unless I get a silly offer like 1.2 otherwise I won't both

Ryles and the club asked for it to be sorted before the season kicks off so it doesnt drag on into the season proper. That would be why Brown's agent went to the other clubs in the New Year.

I just think he owes the club, the fans and his team mates two years. If the club is still struggling and he’s not happy fair enough but I really believe as a sign of good faith he got this sorted out a while ago.

Poor Little Dyl is upset Papa Bea got the arse and he finally has a coach with the balls to challenge him, so sad oh diddums.

He’s coming off looking like a dopey selfish clown, he owes the club and fan base after he helped torpedo the 2023 season with his selfish antics. Instead of being punished he was rewarded with the captaincy by SuperCoach. We finally have an adult in charge and he’s not happy, then he can f**k off to Leeds then.
Dyls titty touching team betrayal contributed to BA being sacked. Probably would have made the finals if he didn't disobey the team agreement not to party on the break.

This.

He had no business being out that weekend and was rightfully charged and convicted of sexual touching. We owe him nothing, he owes us everything and he's fortunate that we don’t have the power to determine his true value, which, in my opinion, is less than $900K.

It seems the market agrees. If he stays, the best approach would be a maximum three-year deal and the cancellation of this long-term contract with multiple options until 2031, as it heavily favours the player. The club has no leverage if his current deal continues with him simply taking up his Round 10 option.
