Simple, he is looking to renegotiate his contract at a much higher price without the POs.

His agent will go to the club and say 'Look Dyl has been offered $1.2m by X Club for 3 years and will sign a new contract at that price to stay.'
Ryles will say 'That's alright, off you go at end of the year, we now have other plans at a much cheaper price.'
At which time agent will say, 'Wwhat......I was only bluffing.'
JR 'OK, we'll get a new contract to you, 3 years starting at $700k increasing by $100k each year.'
Agent, dejected. 'Dyl will exercise his PO in his current contract.'
JR walks away smirking.
Why would you walk away smirking? It hasnt fixed anything? Dilbo would still be on $900K and a year away from another PO?

Without knowing what the terms of the contract are, it is difficult to know if (or why!) things could happen like that.

He is contracted unless he declines the PO. There might be terms of "right of reply" for the club, or "matching" terms. My guess (based on what is happening) is that the club has allowed him to look at other options without yet declining the PO on the condition that, finding nothing more enticing, all POs are voided for the remainder of the contract.

That fits the publicly available evidence. But who knows what happens behind closed doors?

Dyls titty touching team betrayal contributed to BA being sacked. Probably would have made the finals if he didn't disobey the team agreement not to party on the break.
Agree Dylans behaviour was a reflection of the piss poor professionalism this club had under BA.

Carrying on at media press conferences with cat noises like wtf are they 12 years of age.

Matto taking a 3 match ban at the start of the year started that whole rot of a season with ill dispcline and off field issues. And the club and BA got what they deserved in the end.

Ryles has been here 4 months and the standards and expectations on what it takes to be a professional NRL player have already been increased.

Mate Im not precious, you can correct me.
They announced when it was signed that there were 3 options in his contract going out until end of 2031. So assume options for 2026+27, 28+29 and 30+31.
So it follows that if he takes up the current option it would be for 2 years and therefore his next option would be Round 10, 2027 for seasons 2028 and 2029.

Agree its a shit call to take a 3 match ban over a fine but in his defence he did try to reverse his emotional decision.
Dylbags broke a team agreement. He went out anyway, got shiftfaced and committed a sex crime. That says he does not give a shit about the team. His manager is now out lying about a Rooters meeting to try and bend us over for another 300k a year. This is under Ryles tenure. Brown does not give a shit about the team and is rubbing it in Ryles face. He is already way over paid for the occasional highlights reel.

The thing with Matto is he has a fairly clean record and his incident was barely worthy of a 1 week ban. Part of me wonders if his reaction was more due to frustration.
JWH takes someone's head off, had a woefull record and rarely copped 3 weeks for anything

Not sure what Moses said was all that bad.
He was asked about Brown and he said he can have all the time he needs to make a decision, that he loves playing with him and hopes he stays.

Yeah, I watched the interview and didnt see or hear anything wrong with what the club captain said. Shame on the media for even asking the question when the interview with Moses was about him being given the captaincy.

Yeah, it's a shame he got asked the question but you have to expect it with the media circus.
Moses handled it well, I thought. Good work for his first press conference as a captain.

And really, as if Rothfield really cares about how Moses went about this question. He is the one who is throwing fuel on the fire in terms of this PO business, and he will be the one doing it again when it's Moses' turn to come off contract.

I actually wonder if these journos are actually dumb enough to not understand how these POs work or if they do but are just throwing out misunderstandings to rile up the fans.

I think someone like James Hooper would be in the 'dumb enough' category, but Rothfield has been around the game for a long time and I can't imagine he's that dumb. Or maybe he's just drunk.
