And that's a bad thing?

Gee we would have really missed Dylan in the past 2 years.

In 2023 he did more damage in a nightclub then he did on the field being paid 900k a year.

In 2024 he was basically a non-event without Moses. I don't recall one game he took by the scruff of the neck without Moses by his side last year.

Thankfully we gave the keys to the joint for 10 years with a million POs.

Take the north connex and M1 up to Newy Dyl and park yourself at Mereweather to play under Bush coach 2.0.

Gee, hindsight is great isn't it.
Once again, I don't remember anyone being upset about the club signing Dylan to this extension back in 2022.

I reckon you don't know at all... The coach who deemed it appropriate to give him captaincy honours after his sexual touching suspension derailed the 2023 season was gone by November. There's a new sheriff in town, one who has shown he gives zero f**ks how long you've been at the club, or what your qualities on and off the field might be....

Turfing a few aging injury-prone players coming to the end of their careers isn't the same as getting rid of a young five-eithth coming into his prime.

No, November if he hasn't signed we move on. We also probably would have extended him prior to November when he would have been off contract or at least known if he was going to bigger off..

But we wanted to keep him. That's not a good way to negotiate with someone you want to keep.

Yeah we also wanted to keep Reed and Ice but we didn't.

You don't blow your cap or give stupid options just because you want to keep a player...

You negotiate before they go to market and if they don't agree you have more time to find a replacement. From "November 1"
It's better to promote a shemozzle of a clusterf**k scenario. The NRL know what they're doing.

I was immediately disappointed when we stood by him after the nightclub incident. Had we torn up his contract then and there we would be having this conversation and we’d have Sanders getting ready to start the season at 6 (or maybe even Galvin)

If he signs an extension, the first "clause" (PO) will be superseded. How stupid do these rugby league journos think we are? Are they talking about the second PO?

They're making shit up, is what they're doing.
i hate POs as a mechanism, I really do - and I truly believe the club should abandon them as they only act as a hindrance to forward planning.

that said, the narrative from the media is absolute frenzied bullshit!

he doesn’t have a “get out clause” and he isn’t tearing up a contract - it is the same principles as a put and call option which is use commercially every day…but I just don’t think it’s smart business for a league club as such

That's exactly what he's doing.
He has an opportunity to possibly get some more money for his client (which is a manager's job). He can either squeeze it out of Parra or get it from another club. The threat of another club offering more might scare Parra into paying it, however if Parra don't want to pay more, and neither does anyone else, he can just take up the option he had in the first place.

If he ends up leaving you can be sure it will be for more money. I'm of the opinion that Parra should stand firm on what they are already paying him, as they would know his true value and wouldn't want to pay overs. I'd like him to stay, but if he leaves, so be it, but at least we won't be f**king up our cap by overvaluing someone.
I think you are an enabler of the biggest troll i have ever seen - but that is an excellent post

If he didn't have the PO he could still wait until round 10 to let us know what he's doing anyway.
In fact he could wait longer.
He can’t wait longer - that’s mechanically wrong

options work on an option period, so if the period expires without exercise of option, then the latter contract does not have to be honoured after that date and can technically be renegotiated from scratch

Sources not authorised to comment due to the sensitive nature of negotiations have told this masthead that Brown’s management have asked the Eels if they are prepared to up the ante in return for eliminating the first player option in Brown’s contract.

He/ his managers will look pretty lame if he takes up his option without any extra cash.
“Yeah we went to the market but nobody wanted him at the price we wanted and Parra didn’t want to pay extra either so we took the option. BTW, if you’re a young player come sign with us, we’re totes professional bro, trust us.”
