Maybe his middles are struggling to get numbers into the tackle. That's a player issue, not a coaching issue.

I have a mate who follows the Roosters and this is the first year I've heard him say they are no chance. The problem is the squad, not the coach.
Any coach needs to adapt his coaching and play to the strengths of the squad he has at his disposal... You can't keep drumming the same message into merkins if they aren't capable of executing it... It's an indictment on any coach who fails to adapt and evolve.... "It hasn't worked before but this year it just has to!"....

I've criticised Pou about options before, but he has a point here. The only reason it was offered was to secure the player at a better price. Essentially, the player sacrifices some money in exchange for flexibility. It's easy to call it a bad move now, but imagine if we had lost Moses just because we didn't offer him an option.
But does it work? .... you might get them a fraction cheaper the initial term of the contract (maybe???)

When the option comes up, if the player is playing decent, they will try and negotiate a new contract at a higher value. So you probably have to pay more anyway.

If the player is going shit, you wont have to pay more, but you have an under performing (or injured) player and are probably paying overs for them at that point ( sure you would be anyway if it was a standard contract).

If his middles are struggling to get numbers in the tackle and the coach pushed out their most consistent and longest minutes middle out of the club for no reason, then it is a coaching issue.

You don't know why he was pushed out or even who wanted him gone.

They only have 10 internationals and origin players rather than 15. How will robbo handle that?

The squad???? They got plenty of talent
With Keary gone and Walker injured they will struggle with cohesion. Though Townsend has a decent kicking game so they haven't lost anything there.

This result was probably just a lack of motivation, which is pretty normal for trials (and nothing Terrell May would've fixed given his attitude). That's why there's been so many big scores these past few weeks. I doubt it's because Robinson has forgotten how to coach.

That is correct, however I DO know...

The Coach.... allowed Terrell May, the most consistent middle, with the biggest minutes, and the most consistent middle, to leave, after losing their most damaging middle, JWH, so if their middles are struggling, that would be a consequence of.....?

Little wonder Leniu is trying to get out.

What is Terrell Mays attitude (with sources)?

BROWN CHASE, KEEPING PONGA
Buzz:
How important is Dylan Brown to you?
O’Sullivan: If he’s serious about leaving we’d love to have him here and he’d change our footy team. If Dylan is here, we go from a top eight team to a genuine hope of winning a comp. That’s how highly I rate him. I’ve been trying to sign him since he was 17 when I worked for the Warriors. He’s a marvellous player and a marvellous kid. We’ll see what happens.
Buzz: There’s always rumours that your superstar fullback and captain Kalyn Ponga will go to the Roosters to eventually replace James Tedesco.
O’Sullivan: We want him here for life. We haven’t spoken about extending beyond 2027 because I want to get the roster into shape first. There’s no rush. Right now he might hesitate and want to see where we are heading. And that’s fair enough. He’s spoken about his dream of winning a title here and we’ve got to build the right squad to achieve that. Kalyn loves it here. The lifestyle suits him, his mum and dad are here, he lives 100 metres from the beach and I think he’s happy here.

THOSE BRAILEY RUMOURS
Buzz:
What about Jayden Brailey being moved on and dropped from the leadership group?
O’Sullivan: Last year they (the media) were giving it to us because we had too many people in the leadership group. And we did, so we reduced it. The players then chose four leaders - Kalyn, Tyson Frizell, Jacob Saifiti and Dane Gagai.
Brails didn’t have a problem with it. He said to Adam, ‘I don’t have to be in the leadership group to be a leader.’ He was really upset about rumours and innuendo that he wanted to leave now. It’s not factual. Brails is a great kid.

Buzz: Well, why are you letting him go?
O’Sullivan: You can’t have $1.6 million in your cap on two hookers on first grade money. Not in a properly balanced roster and salary cap. We’ve also got Phoenix Crossland. And Matty Arthur from Parramatta is next in line. You should have one hooker and a back-up. Phoenix is not off contract and Brails is. He’s a great boy and very popular. But we can’t keep them all. Simple as that.

Well it's up to the club (and player) to decide how much it's worth. They go in with their eyes open.

Exactly. You lose the option to f**k them off if they're shit (same as if they're on a longer contract) and also lose the option to keep them if they're on unders (same as if they're on a shorter contract). It's the worst of both worlds for the club and the best of both worlds for the player. They are aware of this during negotations and will price the option accordingly.

If you were a player, how much would you give up for a PO? Likewise if you were the club, how much discount would you want before agreeing to the PO?
