I would say a player who's had more than one good season. Especially a bloke who is almost 26.
The point and the question is not whether May had a good season, it is that in the context of JWH leaving, and effectively forcing your most consistent (in the most recent season) prop out of the club, whether it can be anyone other than the coach's fault that they have ineffective middles.

Stats are misleading . I have always thought our pack this entire decade has been over rated. the forwards have never been able to get us off our line and our dominant field position had been from kick returns from players like fergo at the beginning of the decade and more importantly kicks from Moses and opposition teams giving us penalties to get out of our half. That’s why I’m glad ryles us trying a roster overhaul.

but in reality I believe our pack is still crap , noticed tigers and knights game how penalties down our end helped us gain field position
The Panthers' forwards never get them off their line. They barely carry the ball in their own half.

He just had his worst year since he left Canberra and still put out more metres than Terrell May, and therefore more than any forward at the Roosters, apparently.

Kinda why I said our most valuable....no?

How old is Klem? How much is he costing next year? How many games in 1st grade does he need to trigger MO?

What the eye sees doesn't tell the full story either, and unlike stats, the eye test is completely subjective. At least with stats we are speaking the same language. Then those who speak it better can show the others which stats are relevant and which ones aren't.
So who was Roosters most consistent middle?

They had loads of good middles and were able to spread the load very well. That's why losing a couple wasn't going to hurt them. They still have all these:

Butcher
Collins
Leniu
Radley
Watson
White
Wong

At full strength these seven are all jostling for minutes as middle forwards. Add Terrell May to the team and they are probably overinvested in that position.

Weasel words with "middle". There are two NRL standard props in that list. Roosters are in trouble in the middle and it is entirely the coach's fault, which is the point of the discussion.

At least you got it so kudos to you and "how dare you" to everyone else.

I have no evidence that you bash your wife, I dont think you bash you wife, so in the absence of evidence, I assume you dont bash your wife, where as you and others in the case of Terrell May assume that hat he metaphorically did.

Do you see the difference?
No I assume the Roosters think May's 2024 form might be a flash in the pan, and his contract represents a risk they don't need to take. His own comments about his commitment to rugby league support this, along with his very mediocre career thus far.

I don't think they are ineffective. They've just had a couple of quiet trial matches. With the emergence of Whyte (23) and Wong (22) at the end of last year they probably think they can replace May (26) and his busy work off the bench for a lot cheaper. He did take a lot of carries to get his 110m per game.

Naufahu Whyte is already as good as May, and Wong isn't far away. But you are also overstating the importance of 'props' (as opposed to middles) in the brave new world of the NRL. Jack Williams was our best player in the 8 jersey this weekend and he is hardly what anyone would call a prop. He is a middle forward and that is how he played. In each our trials we only had one forward make 10+ carries, being Sam Tuivati (a genuine prop) and Matt Doorey, a converted back rower. In the modern game, middle forwards are primarily there to work hard in defence, and locks do that better than props. It's not a weasel word to describe them as middles, it reflects their usage in the modern game.

But @Tiger5150 I will say that if May plays as well as he did in 2024, for the entirety of his Tigers contract, then he will be a good signing. If he plays even better than last year, he could be a great signing. But remember, whatever he does, if he had stayed at the Roosters, he would've been taking up less of the cap. That's how fair the NRL is.
