If there was any 'frothing' I think it has died down a lot.
There was a little bit. However I'm a glass half full merkin, so I approved.

You merkins were frothing over our recruitment before round one ffs.

But have patience with these recruits. Lomax was f**king awesome on the weekend, Williams has been our best forward, and Iongi and the rest of the youngsters will improve.
Was Lomax good? I did see him do that neat chip kick "heads all the FN way up" play before half time.
Speaking of heads all the way up, I also thought that was heads all the way up refereeing to get that Dogs player for impersonating a ref.

He worked his arse off - broke 8 tackles, ran for almost 300m, contested every bomb...he did his best Superman impersonation to will us a win.

Unfortunately, it wasn't to be - but he was outstanding.

The best thing about today's game, is that Newcastle recruitment team had thier heads in the toilet bowl puking up.....

I still shake my head....what are they thinking???

Anyhow, I think we need to look no further than Hawkins for browns replacement. He is very solid and has plenty of room for improvement. Kind of reminds me of a young Moses.
And can get a decent kick away if Mitch can’t. I haven’t seen enough of him in the past to know what he’s like running and defending.

Honestly, all the players will look a LOT better when Mitch plays.

For one, being able to kick it inside their 10 from anywhere is huge, and he is a very vocal leader and shows the way with effort too.
His experience in ball-playing will be huge too.

The defensive effort is what we want to see without him playing. Sure, a $1.3M player SHOULD be able to run the attack, but we all knew he couldn't from previous attempts. Not our problem.

Many game will be telling. If they bring that same (or better) effort defensively, and execute 5% better in attack, we might keep it close. And who knows what happens in a close game.

Our kicking game was at its best in the second half yesterday. The dogs barely got out of their 40m.

The players we have recruited haven't been the problem. It's the big money we're spending on players we already had that haven't played or aren't having a go.

I don't think anyone earlier in the preseason anyone predicted Moses would miss the start of the year. Or Cartwright and Matterson would be MIA. Or Brown would play as poorly as he has.

I frothed over the recruitment did I? I’ve been banging on about our lack of hooker and edge forwards for months.

Galvin would be an incredible signing.

I can't see it happening, though.

If Junior continues to play like he did yesterday, then we only need to find a complement to him.

Personally, I'd drop Ofahengaue - he's provided very little this year.

I doubt Matterson gets back on the field any time soon, which is a shame - for all his issues, he is a fine player.

I think Lane still has something to offer - but we might need to consider having him come off the bench.

He made 30 tackles yesterday, and missed only 1 - but he only ran 7 times for 50 metres.

I think we all agree that Lane is better when he is running more, and tackling less.

Put Doorey in Lane's spot, move Lane to the bench, and have Lane come on with fresh legs to run at tired defenders.

As we slowly start to get troops back, we will start to get better.

Why would you move Doorey back to the edge? He's playing career best footy in the middle and is providing an inside option for Hopgood which nearly opened the dogs up yesterday. No one else is running that line in the team

If everyone's fit NSW backline -

1 Turbo/Edwards
2 Too
3 Latrell /Best/Turbo
4 Crighton
5 Lomax

One of best ever. All at peak. That alone will steam roll QLD

I said "you merkins", not you specifically. Basically anyone with a shit enough opinion to think sacking a coach (or anyone else) would be enough to improve an NRL club.

Whilst Ionghi may develop into a top shelf fullback he has a long long way to go to get close to Guthersons level. Right now he is probably in the bottom 3 starting fullback in the NRL. It may not be untill 2027 before we start to see his best

If Turbo is fit I'd love to see him in the number 1

Can you leave out best?? He just rises to another level in the sky blue
