It’s about maturity, not potential. For example, Luai didn’t get a run in first grade until he was 21, while the likes of Burton and Leniu got picked as teenagers. Jordan Rankin played NRL at 16 ffs. It wasn’t because anyone thought he was the next Churchill, it was because they needed a backup and he was mentally ready.

If you need a backup they only need to be good enough to be a backup. The reason you don’t generally use teenagers for that is because of maturity. In Jake Arthur’s case he already had an old head on his shoulders. He is currently captain of Manly’s reserve grade side. Whatever his faults, mental strength probably isn’t one of them.
Jordan Rankin wasnt mentally ready and is literally the reason they changed the rule to 18. Completely ruined any chance he had of a decent career. Has frequently said so himself. Jordan Rankin is the textbook example of NOT putting a kid in young.

It’s been such a weird fallout between DCE and Manly and especially the way it’s been played out in the media and all in the last 24 hours or so, generally.

Originally I assumed he was headed to Redcliffe but I’d forgotten about the Chooks. That’s a good shout. While I wouldn’t say no, I don’t think he’s really what we need. There’s no doubting his ability though.

It’s about maturity. You wouldn’t understand.

Dylan Brown / Luke Walsh don't seem matured to me.
Anyhows all I am saying is the club did him no favours throwing him in that early. Letting him develop in NSW cup would of been far more beneficial imo. You're welcome to yours. As a grown adult your entitled to that. I'm not saying I am right just my opinion

DCE 2 yr deal..yes or no?
I'd love to post a poll but don't know how.
What a halves pairing that would be.
Still an amazing player
I say yes

No from me.

Great, great player.

But then who plays 7?

Who is the main man?

Also, we would be swapping one highly-paid half, for another - though DCE has proven himself at the highest level, I don't think it would help our squad balance.

Besides, I think our biggest issues are in the forwards - we need a competitive pack, before focusing on our halves.

Four years later and he’s still not a regular first grader, but yeah no nepotism at Parra.

I think his dad really messed up his development.

I think there's a footy player in Jake, and he's got a great attitude - but playing First Grade so young couldn't have done him many favours.

I'm glad that he's doing well, though - unlike his brother, Jake is a very good kid, with a great attitude.

Spoke to one of the most experienced NRL scouts a few years ago and said look at Liam Martin , so young etc

The reply was, he played reserve grade for 3 years and is now starting to understand how to play NRL at 22, need to be patient etc. Penrith reaped the rewards, just a thought

Wish all players thought that they should wait and develop in cup instead they play a few good games and then get rushed in due to the club trying to keep them.

Jordan would love to blame that rather than the fact he just wasn’t good enough.

The point is he was deemed good enough to get picked in an emergency. The reason was his maturity, not his potential.

Zero merit in us having any interest in DCE

he and Moses play the same game. The controlling, dominant, long kicking half.

Cherry isn’t going to change his style of play at 36, and we are not going to ask Moses, our best player, to change his style to suit someone just walking in for a retirement payout, not to mention that doesn’t help us in the slightest long term where we need Mitch pairing with a 5/8th to grow their long term combo.

Those guys were brought in early due to their ability, not their maturity. It would’ve been good if they’d had both, but plenty of clubs are happy to pick talented young blokes before they’re ready. They usually don’t have a choice. If he has the talent for the top 17 you can tell him he needs to start in reserve grade but then some other club will show him the money.

In any case, we are talking about less talented but more mature youngsters coming in as backups. It’s a different conversation to highly talented but immature merkins walking into the starting side.

All he lacks is speed, which isn’t because he played NRL so young.

Nathan Hindmarsh believes Parramatta Eels should release underperforming Dylan Brown immediately
Eels legend Nathan Hindmarsh believes enough is enough for the underperforming Dylan Brown at Parramatta, saying the club should cut ties with the playmaker immediately.

Eels legend Nathan Hindmarsh believes the club should release Dylan Brown immediately.
Brown’s performances for the Eels have come under the microscope in recent weeks following his decision to accept a massive $13 million 10-year deal from Newcastle, beginning next season.
With captain Mitchell Moses injured, Brown has been asked to steer the Eels during a poor 0-3 start to the season.
Hindmarsh, the longest-serving Parramatta player of all-time and who is hugely protective of the club, said during The Bye Round podcast discussion with James Graham that it’s got a point that the club should let Brown go.
“We spoke the other week about Dylan Brown and possibly, is it better to just move him on?’’ Hindmarsh said.
“I’m getting to that point now where it makes sense.

It does make sense. He’s not offering much at the Eels.
“I’ve never been in that position (immense spotlight) before. I’ve never felt that pressure before.
“It was easy for me to do my job, cart the ball up, tackle someone.

Where he’s (Brown) got to organise the whole shit show that it is at the moment.
“I want to see more from him.
“Yeah the pressure has come in now that he’s signed with the Knights on that huge deal, but I think regardless anyway, the pressure would’ve been there without the huge price tag for next year.’’
Graham added that he felt Brown was playing “scared”.
“He’s on a good wicket (salary) now, you kind of need to be showing a little bit more now,’’ Graham said.
“Honestly, I feel watching him that he’s scared to fail.
“And scared to make a mistake.
“Nathan Cleary, the best halfback in the game, he makes mistakes. He’s not afraid to make mistakes.
“Where I feel Dylan Brown has gone into his shell and he’s shitting himself about making a mistake.’’

Why are we worried about how Moses and DCE will fit together?

Both guys will play 7. It's just that only one of them will be fit/ available on any given week.
Pay DCE what we are currently paying Brown (750k), and he fills in when Moses is out (often). That way we can still afford Wishart at $600k to play 5/8 and run/ tackle his heart out.
You can't tell me we'd be worse off than we currently are??
