The Cow Fusi attack was a shocker and could definitely have been career ending. But prior to this didn't Matto want out of The Tigpies because he thought he was being pushed to play while he believed he wasnt fit? Was this also concussion related?
Did we fail with our due diligence possibly?

I believe he suffered a few concussions at the Tigers, as well.

Two things seem to be hampering Matterson's ability to stay on the field for extended periods over the last 2 years.

One is some ongoing concerns over repeated concussions and his ability to recover sufficiently. My mail was that despite seemingly passing the necessary protocols, his return last year was delayed by some constant niggling headaches that he was experiencing.

The other is a problem he suffered with some discs in his back that keep flaring up and make playing FG not a realistic likelihood in the short-term.

Either of these could prematurely end his season/career.

I think medically retiring Matto would be beneficial for both parties tbh.
Overall bar glimpses or some elite football his signing has been extremely dissapointing.

Sadly, yes.

There have been a few reports of Ryan allegedly suffering headaches, blurred vision, etc. for some time.

I mentioned earlier that he should take legal action against Kaufusi.

We are also missing his contributions on the field - whatever people feel about how he handled his suspension, or the belief that he is soft, I don't believe anyone can argue that he is not a quality player, whom we are missing badly.

Kaufusi's deliberate actions likely shortened his career, which is a shame.

He's never been the same since then. He was basicaly origin quality. He has played scared ever since which is understandable.
It was a cheap shot and he only copped 1 weeks for it.

Cant medically retire him if it was a pre-existing injury when he signed his last contract extension

Yes, you can - if there is an aggravation of a pre-existing injury, the insurance is liable for the aggravation.

I'm no doctor, or lawyer, but I'd wager he stands a pretty good chance to argue that Kaufusi's dog shot aggravated his pre-existing concussion concerns...

Felise Kaufusi should have been stamped out of the game for 12 weeks, man. That was a criminal act almost. Absolutely thuggery.

No, we MAY not be able to make a claim against insurance if the injury is pre-existing. But really we only care about cap effect and just because we can’t make an insurance claim doesn’t mean a retirement payout necessarily is against the cap.
100% it means that. Tigers are going through this now with Olam and also had to hang on to Packer for the full extent of his Contract because his injury pre-existed the last Contract.

If Parra signed him to a Contract with a pre-existing injury, they cant get his salary off the cap if he medically retires. How he gets paid (club or insurance) is irrelevant.

Sure sure you go ahead believe that. I’m not going to disagree with you that the path of least resistance is to take the cap hit but you tell your club there’s absolutely no way a player could retire with a pre-existing injury and not come under the cap….

  • Initiation:
The process typically begins with a player's medical team recommending retirement due to a specific injury or condition.
  • Club's Role:
The club must then argue that the player's career was ended due to a one-off injury and not a chronic issue.
  • NRL's Involvement:
The NRL will likely review the club's argument and the player's medical history to determine if the medical retirement is valid.
  • Consequences:
If the medical retirement is approved, the player's contract is terminated, and they are no longer eligible to play for the NRL.
