Yep, by the time merkins are playing Flegg, their peers with NRL potential are usually playing reserve grade or NRL. The majority of them will never play first grade and the clubs know it. But they have to field a Jersey Flegg team for the ones who aren’t physically ready for reserve grade. The rest are there to make up the numbers.
Every scout in the NRL has been watching him for years.

Anyone implying he was only picked in reserve grade because of nepotism is denying his talent.
Even if they’re paying no more than that, when contracts are so low, any club able to offer cushy jobs and cheap, high quality accommodation has significant advantages. That’s why the same clubs dominate women’s footy every year.

Yeah so is Matt Arthur really holding is own in Reserve Grade.
His last 15 senior games in NSW Cup, NRL & Trials he has played in 14 losses with 1 draw.
He hasn't played in a winning team since the 7th June last year.
He must be downright unlucky to be going gangbusters and been apart of 15 games straight and not won a game.

Do you really think Adam O’Brien has the authority to just give contracts to his friends’ children? He works for a professional NRL club ffs. They all have governance and oversight these days.
Well if we are talking about private conversations that can’t be confirmed, I can tell you that I spoke to a bloke on the coaching staff at a more successful club than ours and he said that if Brad Arthur’s has favourites, he is no different to anyone else who has ever coached in the NRL or any other league or sport. Rugby League teams are built on tribal politics, which is why the (very successful) former Panthers players at the Tigers think what they did wasn’t bullying. It’s why our SG Ball players carried on like f**kwits when they had the game won against Souths on the weekend. It’s why you merkins respond the way you do when someone contradicts your groupthink.
I would agree that every coach has favorites. But favourite players are different to nepotism.
Nobody is contradicting anything. I agree there will always be nepotism or perceived nepotism but it will be highlighted even more when there is a father/son relationship at a club. Your example is too broad and does nothing to boost your argument.
NRL scouts are a dying breed. It's easier and cheaper for clubs to read this forum.
