1. MON needs to move on. No question. But not because of Galvin. Jim, I’m not so sure about but happy for him to go as well
2. Not so angry about missing out on Galvin. I’ve said it before, I don’t think he is anywhere near an $800K to $1 mil player. I think at this stage of his career he is overrated. That’s not to say he won’t reach his potential.
3. I think there are some genuine options in our club, I wouldn’t be adverse to seeing Joash or Iongi tried there, and then of course there are some juniors coming through.
However, if we are going to go to market, I would (without understanding current contract situations) I would chase Sandon Smith, Savala or even Burton.
4. Phil Gould is and always has been a merkin. He is a liar, he is a fraud and he has way too much influence over the game. It’s an absolute disgrace that he (along with many others) use their roles in the media to push agendas. This whole thing smells. It would not surprise me if he had already done the deal months ago.
did I say he is an ugly merkin and a stain on our game?
I think Burton will be gone

He suggested Galvin not take the Tigers offer because it would put too much pressure on him (he ended up signing him on a big money deal himself). He brazenly lied about the Bulldogs having no plans to sign him. His claim about Galvin not being available until 2027 is bull crap and contradicted by his own words where he said the situation was untenable. He knew it was only a matter of time before he was released. He manipulated the situation perfectly.
You have summed it up perfectly...this has been in the works for a long long time.
Tend to think we were never in the picture but used as the diversion. Seemed like it was all done and dusted to parra yet talks most likely happening in the background. We were being made to look like the bad guys, taking to him whilst still under contract etc...
Who cares now, move on.
As I keep saying go very hard for Sandon Smith or have quite a few young blokes ready to go.
Knowing we also probably need to get a prop, backrower and centre may work out best financially and player recruitment wise

It’s just cognitive dissonance man. People can try and rationalise it away but it’s a huge L for us.
I felt it would be like getting a hot new GF but she was cheating on her ex for the first couple of months with you.
You may cope by thinking things will be different with you but in your heart you know she is a cheater.

Personally I think we should now prioritise other positions. At least one edge and one middle forward.

Given we have Moses as the 7 and Walker to play that middle ball playing role, and the inexperience in the 1 and 9, and we need better players in other positions, and we have some juniors coming through, then I'd be considering someone who just a middle of the road player with 100 plus NRL games to play 6. Maybe someone at the back end of their career. I don't have any suggestions though.

Let's not forget Gus also let the kid they had to pay a 500k transfer fee to get go, he did have a neck injury but Gus doesn't just let someone go without someone else in his plans....

Honestly I reckon for the rest of the year we should be giving Joash a crack at 6. From what I saw on Friday the kid should not be going back to reserve grade and we should be spending this year to work out where his best position is.

The pass to setup Samrani was beautiful you don't see that from the space cadet.

Then the try he scored was also beautiful the right foot step nice.

Would be getting him time from the bench like it looked like the plan was last weekend.

He may get the wing spot next round if Penisini is ruled out.

Well you need to spend a minimum of 90% of your cap, and by my account we have close to $2m to spend and there is no one of decent note available to sign for 26.

so are we just going to overpay juniors to make sure we hit the mark?

Because looking at the current available players, not a single one of them would command more than $400-$500k.

No rep quality forwards to be seen. Nor 5/8ths

Surely Mitch is f**king spewing with this situation. Ever since the Galvin news came out, he has been asked about it in basically every interview he has had to do. He will be filthy.

Front load contracts? Is that a thing these days?

Attack wise, reckon he could cover 5/8 (with experience). Comes down to defence, is he able to defend on an edge? Size wise probably not, but a lot comes down to attitude.
Defence can be learnt and will come with time. Remember when Moses came to parra his defence was terrible now he is one of the better defenders in the comp.

Although be got caught out a few times early he learnt from his mistakes and saved the try in the second half.

I’d go either Joash or Sandon Smith for the right price. Either choice would be a good one.

This is what Gould said.....read it over and over and over because it is a concise lesson in itself.."“We’re not thinking about Lachlan Galvin, we’ve never at any stage been involved in any discussion regarding Lachlan Galvin and we’re not going to get into a discussion about Lachlan Galvin. He’s not on our radar,”

He said it all up front. He is saying, "We are not the one doing the f**kery, he is not available for negotiations...we will let Parra do all the dirty work until we can."

Hate the game not the player, and Parra started the game. Gould would not have been able to believe his luck.

FOXX EXTENSION

The Parramatta Eels have taken up a one-year option on winger Josh Addo-Carr, who has scored seven tries in nine appearances this year. The 29-year-old former Origin and Kangaroos winger is just three tries short of the 150 mark in his 10th NRL season.

SHOOSH

With old Daly Cherry-Evans heading to the Roosters, we’re hearing Anzac Day medallist Sandon Smith will quit the Chooks at the end of the season. His likely destination is the North Queensland Cowboys. It comes after another outstanding performance from halfback Hugo Savala and five-eighth Smith against Cronulla on Saturday which had everyone in rugby league asking why the Roosters would bother signing Cherry-Evans, who turns 37 in February.
