for a start, his situation is beyond our control because he’s still contracted so there’s a great deal of uncertainty surrounding even though about 90% of our signings are players who had deals elsewhere.

I’ve also carried a lot of doubt on our recruitment staff to make it happen, we simply don’t have the right personnel on board to regularly get those established top tier players over the line..
Curran’s not an established top tier player, he’s on a par with Jack Williams. He exactly fits our recruitment model.

I reckon this current crop of juniors is the best we’ve seen come through in a very long time — probably the strongest since the Baby Eels era. We’re absolutely dominating at the junior level, and if we play it smart with a few well-judged, no-frills mid-tier signings, there’s a real chance we could come close to what Penrith built before their current run. Maybe not four in a row, but there’s definitely a Brian Smith-era vibe about this squad.

I still remember back in 2004 when we pushed hard to sign Thomas Leuluai. We came very close, but Brian Smith chose to back the talent we already had — and Tim Smith stepped up and grabbed his chance. History has a funny way of repeating itself. Someone unexpected might get a shot at five-eighth next season and end up surprising all of us.

I think we have had some pretty good kids in the lower grades over the years the thing we are seeing now is that the players are developing and buying into the club.

I think/hope we will see the players in cup wasting an NRL spot are replaced by the guys now on Flegg...

I have high expectations when it comes to our COE. That combined with a new coach and a different team direction as a whole can only give a person like me some fresh hope for the future.

I think we are gun shy. Been that way since the salary cap dramas. I reckon this Galvin stuff is going to reinforce that.
I attribute some of the blame here to BA (because he was either part of problem, or at least not solution) because it was the same in our play style. Trying to do things to the ideal, risk-free circumstances. But it’s the old adage, if you’re not going forwards, you’re going backwards.
But I think there’s good signs with Ryles if we can really bring Iongi, Papalii, Kautoga, Smith, Tuivati up to a decent level, then other good external players will see that and want to come here too.

Which going back to Dogs is pretty funny, old mate Tiges laughed when I questioned Ciraldo compared to Ryles for development. Looking at their squad I count 3 players (Hayward, Preston & at a stretch Kiraz who was already playing 1st grade) that Ciraldo has developed into decent 1st graders and 1 external player (King) who is performing better than he did previously. The other 26 players are ring-ins or unestablished players.

You know what’s even funnier? Mason crediting Ciraldo for the form of the three Dogs players and saying that ciraldo developed them in their systems

Sure, it’s just a podcast with Mason and Horo, but it shows the influence that having club-aligned voices in the media can have. They spin a narrative, and suddenly it becomes “fact.” This is exactly why there needs to be real scrutiny around Gould’s dual roles—and others in similar positions.

He was 29 coming off a couple of average seasons after being sacked for being a bell end. I'm sure other clubs were knocking down his door.
His salary might’ve been modest this year, because of the risk, but we wouldn’t have signed him if we didn’t think he would improve us. The risk mitigator for us was the CO. From his perspective, he would’ve backed himself to get back to his best, so he wouldn’t have agreed to the CO if it meant selling himself short. There mightn’t have been a lot of interest for him but that’s very different to being zero interest. If were keen, so were other clubs. Otherwise he would be on minimum salary.
Somehow a tin pot club with no money or no resources nabbed him.
So how’d we get him if not a fair whack of cap space (something every club has the same amount of)? How did we get him with a CO? That’s something clubs have to pay extra for.
If you reckon he's on almost as much as Lomax you are pulling your dick.
I reckon Lomax is on a lot more than JAC. He could be on $800k

Well we finally don't have any RMC players in cup this week! Making progress! (Ok 1 in Loizou)

Flegg has a handful of the ball players now playing up.
