Offer him a bit more now to get him in the door and the investment down the track will be paid back as he gets becomes more experienced and a better player.
The only thing I’ll say is this is exactly what we did with Brown and it always felt like we were paying him one contract value earlier than he was worth.
Other than that you are probably correct with expansion happening, there’ll be another redistribution of perceived value.

Or we pay him $650k and plays no better then Smith for the next couple of years.....are we going to say he cost us a premiership?

Paying overs is what stuffs a rebuild....

BTW - I reckon TDS would be a great signing for the right price, has plenty of potential, but there is point of getting a deal and paying to much....
If you've watched him play you will realise he is a fair bit better than ryley smith who is 3 years older than him , it's like saying Sean Russell only cost the club $200 k when we all know he's an average player , without sounding like a serial poster on here sometimes you pay for quality and that's why 5 clubs want him

no one is disputing that..

but this kid is a dime in a spine position and it might mean we may need to go slightly over and above...

if TDS is interested in playing for us, you sit him in a room with Iongi and Moses and give him some love...that's after we take him for a tour of our COE.

oh and we can get MON to fetch the lads some coffee and pastry, that would be the absolute length of his negotiation skills...

In the latest Q&A Bloke in the Bar podcast an interesting question was asked. Who is closer to a premiership, Eels or Dragons?

Eels was the pick. Kemp reckons shit will get worse before it gets better at the Saints.
kempy111 future premiership power rankings.
I think the slight advantage Drags have over us is a lot of their salary is tied up in grandpas.

In part it comes down to if they have any good reserve grader or Flegg guys coming through. If they do then they might be closer than us.
I would say though that I prefer Ryles over their coach and I think Ryles is identifying and helping recruit players with a much better upside than the Dragons have the last 12 months.
I heard today our NSW Cup side have made the finals just twice in the past 11 years.

Considering we were winning comps in reggies for fun in the mid 2000s and always in the top 4.

That's been a massive decline on our part and it hasn't help install that winning culture across all grades.

We seem on track this year at least.

In terms of Flanagan well he is a muppet/whinger i call him Ricky 2.0 always whingers after a loss about the refs or something.

Never takes any accountability & now that's being exposed for nepotism over his treatment of his son.

Gutho, Cook & Holmes won't be any better this year then what they are now.

I reckon he will be out the door by end of 2026.

Right price are you talking 400k-450k.

He wouldn't even bother talking to us if thats the case.

You knows whats going to happen when Perth come in 2027 & PNG 2028.

The value on everyone is going up with 22 more million dollars to be spent on talent across the next 3 years.

650k for a young talented hooker is going to be unders in 2027/2028
I don't know what the right price is, but the point is its not as simple as just getting the deal done by giving him $600k or so.

There could be many factors if the club doesn't get the deal done. Maybe they rate him but simply don't think $600k is what his value is at and are better with Smith.

I know it's frustrating not seeing any signings, but so far Ryles recruitment decisions have been very good.

I didnt have a problem with Drown and the overs we may have paid for him leading up to this year.

I think at the end of the day you need stability in the halves.

And we got to a GF after 4 years with Moses/Drown working together was 50 wins, 24 losses when on the field together in that period up to GF day.

Probably our most successful halves duo since Sterlo/Kenny.

If anything i was more disappointed in Dylan and his disgraceful behavior a couple of years ago after getting a big contract.

And never seeing like someone who was keen to improve his game.

Last year was his chance and he had enough experience by then to stand up and he didnt.

Well neither of those clubs you mentioned have been linked with him.

The Dolphins have a halfback called Katoa they are going to have to pay a motza to keep at bay from Rival clubs.

I doubt there priority is signing a hooker on big $$$ with JMK being locked in and Donoghue as a capable backup who can play lock & middle as well.
Bruh, I was being analogous.

I think 600 to 650 is very reasonable for a player like him, he'd be a starting 9 at most clubs right now including ours...it all depends whether we have the ability to get it over the line, I have grave concerns that we can.
How many clubs are offering $600k-$650k though? The media doesn’t know. How many of those can find an extra $50k-$100k outside the cap?

But look if you want to keep making the same excuses for our lame arse R&R then were never going to win a premiership playing it safe with bargain basement rubbish across the park with this HOF running the show.
Clubs have to spend nearly all of the salary cap, so if you think our squad is weak then we already have a bunch of merkins on overs. They’re the problem, not the ‘bargain basement rubbish’ players we are forced to sign to fit around them.

Why do you think the solution is to sign more players on overs?
