Not only have they dropped Reed they have thrown him under the bus even more to make themselves look good.

Given he has been with the Bulldogs for three seasons, panellist Dan Ginnane questioned the idea that Mahoney is suddenly a poor communicator on the field.

“Canterbury have mastered the art, the dark art, of manipulation, of getting a narrative out there,” Ginnane said.

“I’m not saying it’s wrong with Reed Mahoney.

“He’s been there (three years). Now all of a sudden, he’s a bad communicator.”

I wonder if Mahoney has some regrets for ever going to that despicable club led by the biggest two faced dickhead in the NRL.

Not sure how Galvin will play out, but I understand both Isaac Moses and his father urged him to sign with the Eels and play in his natural position outside Mitch. The week leading up to the decision he was personally bombarded by Gus and at his urging his school coach. He made th decision to sign with the Dogs after promises from the usual. Interesting if there is regret and more to the point, how will his career proceed.

I hope he regrets it every day for the rest of his life.

Once the Dogs bomb out of the Finals

Ryley Smith will be closer to a premiership then Reed.

What is the media's fixation with "x-factor"?

A player doesn't need to have an "x-factor" to be a solid contributor.

Da Silva has "x-factor" - at least, more than Ryle Smith does -, but Smith is a better overall player.

"X-factor" just means "flashy", tbh.

I said to someone the other day extending Gus to 2031 was a dumb decision.

The best thing the dogs could actually do now is move him on.

His done his job rebuilt them back up from bottom 2 or 4.

Now there in the window his going to spin the magnets around because his bored and needs to look like he is doing something.

You only have to look at Penrith there dynasty could have started 5 years earlier if he didnt keep meddling into the FG side.

Paul Kent said on his podcast a couple times this story about Ivan Cleary at Penrith in 2015 saying no to Gus on releasing Api Koroisau.

As Gus wanted to move him on as they had James Segeyaro on less money coming off the bench. Gus felt there wasn't much difference between the two players and with Api on more $$$ wanted to move him on.

Ivan blocked it.

Well a couple of weeks i looked up the date on google July 2, 2015 Ivan's driving to Penrith training from the Northern Beaches where he lived and he heard on the radio Api Koroisau has been released to go to Manly.

Apparently he almost drove off the road and at the end of the year there relationship deteriorated so Gus moved him on.

Maybe he should go ask Jack "I Wanna Win a premiership so I'm signing with Souths" Wighton ;)

It’s certainly an overused idiom.

I think the interesting take on that sort x-factor stuff is that Justin Horo video on Guymer. He makes a great point on Guymer’s mindset at such an early age. I think it shows Guymer is potentially very footy smart (and what have we lamented of the team in recent years?).

He may never be the physical elite of the comp but I’m hopeful he develops that intelligence x-factor. That’s leadership quality.

I hope they bomb out, not just coz they are the dogs, but also for the media storm about how they screwed up their run, and burning their 9 and 7 in the process.
We can only hope!

X-factor is the thing that can make the difference in a tight game. That includes merkins who are error prone or poor in defence. Unintended x-factor.
