Yeah they made the finals four straight years and then decided to make ‘shithouse calls’. You need to accept that the salary cap forces lean years to follow good years. More than half the teams miss the finals every year. Even with 16 teams, a club doing an average job will miss the finals half the time. The current management has made the finals four years out of seven. In the twenty years to 2018 we only made the finals nine times. We were below average for two decades and now we’re above average. It’s progress, unless you succumb to recency bias.

you do realise that he spent most of that 22 year coming off the bench? so he wasn't even a starting forward when he got that deal.

I think we’re hoping that but more realistically waiting for November when players become officially available for 2027

the game has changed significantly since i started watching it but from what i can tell you still pick the best available 13 to start the contest, that part of it isn't rocket science.

The biggest change in game around this has been limited interchange. The game isn’t necessarily about starting your best 13, more having them on the field for as long as possible

100% agree. Walker is playing good now at 13 but do you throw another 3 seasons at him just he played well in a team that was fighting for the spoon..

Titans and Knights are going to me moving a lot of their roster on with new head coaches

Pezet is looking for a loan deal at one of those clubs which would mean that the Titans are looking to move on a half. Campbell would be a good pickup at 5/8.

Yep, horses for courses. Hopgood and Smith offer nothing in attack. The reason they start is to cover Paulo in defence.

The player needs to agree to it. I’d say most players would prefer more cash up front and take their chances in the final year of the contract.

Walker is older than Matterson. But if he was playing this well at 27 (Matterson’s age when he signed his current deal) why wouldn’t you give him extra years or a PO if it means you can keep him. The alternative is paying him more up front. That’s fine if you have cap space but a team that just made the finals four consecutive years will have a lot less cap space than one that has missed the finals several years in a row.
