Or play him in first grade. Surely he isn't worse than Moretti or Doorey.
Skillwise definitely he’s better. I reckon he’d be mentally cooked but. You think he’s going to put his body on line to stop a 110kg opponent scoring or make the extra effort to sprint 10 metres to be in correct position? Because I think expect Moretti or Doorey would

From what i understand matto is staying as no-one wants him.
If he can adapt to the way Ryles wants the team playing he has something to offer.
I would still have doorey, moretti, tuivaiti, debelin, Walker and Jnr ahead of him.
If he stays he's playing more for Cayless than Ryles.
He needs a massive attitude adjustment

I'm not sure he fits what we're after in the pack either. We have 3 very distinct roles for our middles. Big boppers, ball players, 3rd man hole hitters. Matterson would be fighting with Walker and De Belin to be the ball players which they are much better at, he wouldn't be in the Moretti and Doorey group.

The only one who doesn't really fit into those 3 roles is Hopgood but he was in the leadership group for this year so despite his poor first half to the year Ryles obviously rates his leadership skills enough to keep him in the side and find a role that suited him and he finished the year much stronger.

Maybe we can send him and Simmo to some sort of behaviour therapy.

The irony is I’m taking endone to deal with that exact pain post surgery anyway. I didn’t even get a bloody chicken sandwich so $1.7mil is a lot to an already broken 44 year old man.

Also, I’m a Parra tragic, I’ve been copping it for years from our club anyway!

You could buy about 250,000 chicken sandwiches with that much money.

Super league is expanding next year, plenty of opportunity for a spot over there. Mustn’t have enjoyed his time in England. Even reserve graders like RCG are getting decent contracts

If Matto is going to be hanging around then Ryles should sit down with him and see what can be done about getting the best out of him for a final season. Offer a bonus or something.

Just offer him the privilege of playing 1st grade for the eels if he pulls his finger out. Would be enough for most people, not to mention the massive amount of $$$ he gets to do it
