Ryley Smith became my new favourite player last year.

Love his work rate and intensity on the field. Not as talented as other top class 9s like Grant and Api but still an absolute competitor and could lay cables with more dummy half ability than BA’s son.

I think he’ll take his game to another level this year,

He's just said Boods is a very good dummy half and Riley Smith is subpar.
Legal Eel is right.
Pou is just trolling everyone..
What makes you think Ryley Smith is a good dummy half? His kick pressure? His tackle count? None of those things are done from dummy half. Quality dummy halves create plays, they don't just shovel the ball to the forwards or the halfback.

I find this an interesting take. TDS is a very skilled dummy half and has the potential to be elite. Very fast out of DH, good skills but has one or two stray passes a game (which will improve with experience). I'd find it strange (and slightly hilarious) if TDS has passed up the chance to learn from Api and play a back up role from the bench to trade it for being behind Ryley Smith and still playing from the bench.

It will be interesting to see how he develops.
A backup on the bench is very different to playing 60 minutes off the bench. Not all bench players are equal. Matterson came off the bench for us in 2022 and played longer minutes than all our other middles.

Ryley’s skill set is the intangibles and working his ring off. He doesn’t have much deception or running game which people seem to think are the areas you need to have to be called a skilful 9… but a bloke that’s willing to work as hard as he does is going to find ways to bring them and things like a nice kicking game into his game . Great player.
Anyone that prefers Boods to him is off their rocker .
Also decision making and execution. The kind of stuff that results in line breaks and tries. It's not very common to be able to do much playmaking out of dummy half, which is why the likes of Ryley Smith can be effective just passing the ball when merkins call for it. But there are some dummy halves who are very effective. Grant, Brailey, Mahoney and Koroisau are some of the best at this. And Boooods obviously. Ryley Smith is one of the worst, but he should improve with practice.

Fairly sure all those things are done from the dummy half.

Probably should ask the winger to do them instead?

People are mocking you but I know for a fact that Penrith agrees with you from some conversations I’ve had with people over there.

Not disagreeing that people from the Riff mentioned stuff and didn't keep Ryley.

Then Penrith also won the competition with Kenny who doesn't have a passing running or kicking game.

Also not saying Smith is better then Kenny or would have replaced him. It's good to know people.

Have a look at Mitch Kenny, hardly an elite passer etc but a a terrific worker. Could be that those skills weren’t a development priority at the Riff, they leave any creativity to Cleary and previously Luai., now shifted more to Yeo .

They just didn’t rate him as an nrl standard player. Here’s hoping they’re wrong.
