Gotcha, but you also mentioned that one player’s PO prevented the retention of another. My post was in regard to use of POs.
It'll be a long time before Talagi even gets close to competing with Drown.I think in large part they were. Just because one could play elsewhere didn’t mean there wasn’t competition for who was going to play 6.
I'm not sure how much planning is possible with so many moving parts. My point was either the lack of forethought or inability to attain a scenario where Brown’s PO isn’t a year after Talagi’s. Maybe it isn’t such a big deal and wasn’t at the time but as I said earlier I doubt that much planning goes into the list management. It’s certainly been very reactive thus far.

2023 MON: Hey Blaize, loving your shit in the SG Ball team. Here's a cheap three year contract in case Drown gets huge offers and we refuse to match it. Ignore his PO, he would have to be crippled to not get better offers next November. And don't worry about being off the market, nobody's going to be throwing top 17 money at a promising youngster like you. It never happens, even though we shitcanned Corey Norman to keep Drown when he was about your age.
To quote Mike Tyson, everyone has a plan until some more desperate club throws huge money at your players.

I reckon Pazza saw it when it was 58 mins behind the live broadcast
Oops!Yes 20 minutes! I bloody had to listen from the 58 minute mark for 30 minutes while this forum was down ffs!
We did play him at fullback in NSW Cup. He played his first three reserve grade games in the 1 jersey. But he was too good to keep out of first grade, especially with all the injuries. After Sivo, he was our next top tryscorer that year. Without him we might've run last. And keeping him in reserve grade wouldn't have stopped anyone from signing him. It didn't stop Iongi demanding to leave Penrith early. Not to be that guy but if we wanted to keep Blaize we would have found a spot for him in the top 17 along with Brown.
He played his SG ball at centre due to Lynn and Sanders. We could have had a convo with him in the pre season and said we want you to develop at fullback play the season in CUP we will turn you into a better version of Walsh. Gutho will move to centre and help your game the following season.
We played him in the NRL too soon basically

Remember just because you've never heard of a youngster doesn't mean all the NRL clubs haven't. NRL recruiters know all the top juniors in the country long before they turn 18. And when a teenager's getting picked in reserve grade their ears all prick up.
Our pathways were great and still are. If not for neglecting pathways during Covid, we’d have a much better side now.He wasn't good at all in NSW cup in his first 3 games.
We all knew of him as he was playing at halfback for the Australian side. Doesn't mean we should have just rushed him into the first grade side though.
It basically showed though our pathways was f**ked. Pardon my french.
True, but also true that it’ll be awhile before he competes on cost. How long until he competes on value do you reckon?Gotcha, but you also mentioned that one player’s PO prevented the retention of another.

Hi Blaize, we really excited about your talent to the point we think you could play every position. How about a 3 year contract and we’ll throw in 2 years of POs? Don’t worry about the value of those because everyone knows they are just placeholders for renegotiations, but we know they’ll give you piece of mind that should Brown stay and you decide to challenge yourself further at 5/8th then you’re free to leave. Heck Gutho is getting a bit long in tooth, perhaps an opportunity at fullback may be available.I'm not sure how much planning is possible with so many moving parts.

Difference is JDB appears medically fit, Watmough had been broken for years.I do recall BA signed Watmough in his 2nd season in charge for that reason and Choc was crying for medical retirement within 12 months.
JDB though couldnt be any worse then Choc though.
It's still good. We will have a great (and young) reserve grade side this year. We had a young side last year and the merkins won 16 games.Were... being the operative word.
It just gave us a bit of hollowness around the age group born between 2001-2003. It's only really Russell and Wenisini who were good enough out of that crew. Because outside backs tend to get pro contracts younger, they were already in the full time squad when Covid hit.Covid did a pretty good disservice to our pathways.
We will have a good side again!
Watmough barely missed a game 'for years':Difference is JDB appears medically fit, Watmough had been broken for years.
Oh god what did they say? Let me guess, everything is sweet and we are set for a huge season?is it my imagination or is tct commenting on stevies post at about the 58min mark of tonights news podcast???
lol just saw it. “Slanderous, players having a low opinion of others”. Thats not what I shared at all!
Anyway I won’t share it again trust me. But yeah, apparently everyone is knocking our door down to get to Parra, yeah?
I said NOTHING about team culture. I said nothing about Ryles or his strategy or style. No one loves the Eels more than me and I hope we smash them this year.
If you mods wish to take down the Post I am very happy do you too. I was never trying to cause issues. Surely everyone on here is just as rusted on as I am. Happy for you to delete.
Consider this as my apology, and retirement.
Annnnnyway. Let's go Parra.
