Jenkins is almost certain to be available, and Tago potentially as well, for 2027. The reality is the top-tier players are usually locked in a year ahead—that’s why November 1 is so important. The issue is our club has never operated that way; we consistently wait and pick up unwanted scraps instead. That approach is fundamentally flawed.

since MON has been at the club our approach to recruitment has been ridiculously passive, in fact it's been completely limp dicked with the exception of 1 occasion, and that's when Reed decided to jump ship and that's when we gave Hodgson his post football supa payout...I'm pretty sure Korosiou was still available at the time.

MON has this regimented process about recruitment that has frustrated fans and members and worse of all, player managers, his tenure at this club has been a total disaster.

"Penrith will confirm the signing of James Maloney once the final part of his deal has been resolved.

The sticking point is a third party.

A $200,000 Keno sponsorship is being scrutinised by the NRL and unlikely to be signed off after Maloney suggested the club was organising the TPA which is against the rules."

Atleast show the guy enough respect to answer properly. He is never rude and asked nicely. Instead you've given a smart arse reply. Fair game to attack smarts arses like myself who attack you but quite rude when someone's asking genuinely for your honest opinion.
But but but but but he’s only here to talk footy!!

he’s a pathetic merkin who has to argue the point on everything. He has turned himself into an irrelevant parody.

Alamoti 2024: 16 NRL games, 7 NSW Cup. That's not a backup. That's a depth player, like Kelly this year.
Harper 2024: 8 NRL games, 14 NSW Cup. That's a backup.

My biggest fear atm is the club management are probably already going to write this year off due to Injuries & bad luck no matter what happens.

But lets be real the recruitment for 2026 has been a bloody disgrace. Pezet, JDB & Kelly.

I can understand us asking the NRL for some dispensation over bad luck with injuries

But honestly how about asking some questions of ourselves internally that at least 6 or 7 players in our top 30 are not up to standard & players like Matto who checked out 2 years ago.

16 other clubs would have resolved the Matterson situation long ago. And who was the idiot again who offered him a 4 year deal with a PO.

That's right MON

Whatever you do please don’t post this on TCT. The big fella would explode and demand you reveal yourself.

hopefully Matto is the last of the 'ghost players' we've been carrying over the years..

I would love to know BAS opinion on our recruitment over the years MON was involved with the club..

He must have been absolutely over the moon with the recruitment post our grand final loss..

T he depth was, is and remains a major issue. Looking at this weeks team list m and we have in the top 20yet another winger that probably shouldn’t be in Cup, who scouts and lists even our own juniors.

Looks like we have some very good juniors coming through, the real trick now is to sign at least a couple of elite players to steer them , improve our club and support their progress. On reflection someone like Timoko is just a filler as our own players quickly move, Ethan Strange played first grade at 18, we need to start looking at elevating them . The end of Ball and seeing what some players can do further up can’t come quick enough

Interestingly I was told by a player manager who operates out of varsity lakes (Robina ) that dealing with O'Neill and the ticks and crosses they go through at the eels makes them a club he doesn't want to deal with

Can confirm that a couple of player managers I’ve spoken to, expressed the same view that it’s not a negotiation more a battle. In essence they don’t approach the club as a first choice,

TBF management can almost write off this year because moves they can make would probably only be kiddy pool stuff. But writing off this year means they need to put what’s written off this year into energy for improving next year/2028 right now. We don’t need to start from scratch but there are dozens of improvements we could/need to make
