Rumours and Stuff

Well, seems like we have a decent coach, good assistants with a poorly recruited team. Losses replaced with mediocre talent, more than decent junior depth coming through which need some elite level signings to fulfill their potential.

Real question, what are the chances of that happening ?

Well that is pretty simple to assess.

Generally past performances predict future outcomes.

Mediocrity in = Mediocrity out.

It originates from Einstein's theory on Bending Time with Parra. B = TP²

No he doesn’t.
What this season shows and what everyone has been whinging on here about is we need depth. So all we need to do is choose between Papalii and Twiddle as backup fullback (right now neither are higher than 2nd choice NRL fullback - if someone else wants to pay them higher than that, that’s their risk) and if the odd one out isn’t happy being the backup to the backup then all we need to find is a 3rd string fullback to replace them (who people will whinge isn’t a good enough player), or Bamblett steps in (we’ve heard that before).

Our depth is quite good. It is the difference between them and our best 17 thats the issue. Atleast 5 or 6 of then should be back ups. And 3 of them need to be replaced with Elite players not average to make a difference.

Lorenzo may play NRL. He will only improve us if he is top shelf. If he turns out just a solid NRL player whilst its still a good achievement it doesnt improve us a whole lot

Probably zero. Wasn’t Ryles quoted at a members forum saying he’d entertain those signings at the right price, or words to that effect?
With the addition of the Bears and teams like the dragons throwing more cash and 5yr deals at KK, ‘elite’ signings at ‘good value’ are gonna be hard to come by.
I think we’ll see a repeat of what’s been happening so far under Ryles.
Hopefully some juniors come good.
Always next year, hey.

I’ve updated our logo to encompass our age old strategy.

No, you don't have time to be telling jokes and fighting with TCT. Plus I work for myself and my kids are grown, so I have time to handle the funny stuff mate.
I take gross offence to being linked to their show, in any way, shape, or form! Same goes for any of those f**king peanut shows.

Most clubs don't have enough elite players. What's the chance of us buying all the ones we need when there is so much demand for them? Paying market price for elite players will blow your salary cap, and what can we offer them other than market price?

Three clubs considered him good enough to sign from elsewhere. When the Chooks poached him from Cronulla he was the next big thing.
Yet the chooks may have realised what a flop he was and punted him after 12 months.

Shane Flanno ringing Robbo after he dropped his son midway through the year i don't think helped things whatsoever. And probably one of the reasons the Chooks got rid of Kyle pretty quickly after going out in straight sets in 2020. Robbo didnt want to deal with the Flanagan's.

FLANNO DEMANDS ANSWERS AFTER KYLE DROPPED

THE Kyle Flanagan demotion at the Sydney Roosters has created plenty of waves with the young gun playmaker seeking out coach Trent Robinson for clarification about whether he’d been dropped or rested.

The answer was the rookie halfback had been dropped in favour of fellow young gun Lachlan Lam, the son of Roosters champion Adrian Lam.

Where it gets more interesting is the Roosters were due to play St George Illawarra in round 13, the club where Flanagan’s father Shane is an assistant coach.

Shane Flanagan also sought out Roosters coach Robinson over the phone for clarification about why Kyle had been dropped last week.

Kyle Flanagan is signed at the Roosters until the end of next season but there are already rumblings the no.7 may look elsewhere beyond this season.

Aside from the good form of Lam, the Roosters also have 18-year-old Sam Walker waiting to debut in the halves.

Could we see another Ivan and Nathan Cleary situation at St George Illawarra next year with Shane and Kyle Flanagan?

Will we bring Bamblett up into reserve grade this season?

The end of last season Lorenzo, JFI and Ryda finished the year in NSW cup.

I'd imagine if players like bamblett, Fletcher, Ryda, Petrus, koina stay fit you could see them play a fair bit of NSW cup. The injury crisis will only accelerate spots available for these kids.

I wonder what the status of our Dev contracts are for next year, Fletcher and Koina?

Blaming Ryles is a stretch, he’s been with the club 12 months and this roster has been assembled by the dynamic duo over 7 years, and doesn’t resemble the talent we had when they assumed responsibility.

Done reasonably well in matters outside recruitment, whatever their KPIs were , they haven’t really achieved any roster improvement , Ryles really has not had a major influence really.
I think Ryles has done a great job and have said so on here many times. And I’ve also said MON bears great responsibility for our roster including the loss of three halves (Drown, Sanders, and Tuilagi) in the space of about 12 months.
My ‘more of the same’ is not blame, despair, criticism, or anything other than an acknowledgment of Ryles’ philosophy to recruitment and how that works in a market where demand for high quality players isn’t just greater than the supply, the demand has actually increased (more clubs).
You’ll get no argument from me about our shitty recruitment and losses, I just can’t see big signings until we get Junior and Matto off our books.

Ball is a terrible indicator for NRL success. A lot of physical and mental growth ahead
SG Ball shows natural talent, which is one of the essential requirements of an NRL player. The "physical and mental growth" is then required on top of that, not as a substitute.

Would it be better if we had developed no halves at all? We do have probably the most expensive half in the game.

They are both uncontracted for 2027 which is very exciting.

My point is that it would have been good to have kept at least one, instead of losing all three. They are all first graders now and we’re effectively developing a half for the Broncos.
So maybe not such a great plan to develop halves for Newcastle, Canberra, Penrith, and the Broncos, leaving none for ourselves!
