Rumours and Stuff

I think Joash’s footwork and speed are massively overrated. Barely busts tackles or makes line breaks.

I think also his biggest issue is he passes when there is a backline sweep even when it isn't on . He is still going to throw it. Its like a premeditated training move rather then what's infront of him. Nearly always ends in a mistake or intercept or the winger being tackle wide out which wastes the next play.
Needs to learn to cut back in when nothing is on.

I really like this kid...

But what do we do with him?

Iongi arguably has a higher ceiling at fullback, and Joash is not really a 5/8...

But his energy, and enthusiasm, is too important to leave out of the side...

Maybe as a centre?
Its a shame hes a little too small and we have iongi. Utility is probably going to be his best bet at consistent nrl footy. Maybe if he got a little stronger and kept his speed he could scrape by being a winger. Alas its a shame but looking like hell only be a back up fullback or utility player. Hes still young and may surprise us like sean has but i cant see it yet. I do love his passion for the game and desire to play for the badge... hope hes around the club but i can see how he eventually leaves

I agree with this. He has to run first to hold the defensive line and then selectively pass

Hes got foot work. He just doesn't get in space to use it.

I think it was his first game at either right wing or centre he setup a nice try with foot work but like i said above, he doesn't have space

He should play to his strengths and not come in and pass per the play book

I’d cut Joash loose. Twidle is more versatile.
I think theyre both roughly the same age. Twidle has the more favourable physique but i feel like joash is a better defender despite his size and can play more positions. Twidle did have the most epic debut ever and now is injured. I would love to see twidle get a go while samrani and bailey are both out i feel like hed be a better winger of the two

Good footwork creates space. Papalii dances around and creates no space.

Twidle can play any position that doesn’t require a lot of defence.

I've called out his defense as beeing poor. But then I thought about it.He is the same age as Blaize. 21 who had a shocker against the Dogs and bounced back the following week . Penrith are happy to work with him and develop him slowly even with his poor defense just like we did with developing Moses defense which was basically non-existent when he arrived. If we want to develop Twiddle then he has to be given a shot. Simple as that. His run and passing game has surpassed Joash. Joash is better under the high ball and defense but not exactly great at either. Twiddle will only have to improve slightly in those areas to be as good but with a much bigger frame could end up much better. Once they are he will be superior in every department.

'On the map': Parra rookie's pride as NRL's first Kurd

Araz Nanva is one of the few winners in Parramatta's injury crisis and the centre hopes his presence at NRL level can achieve some recognition for his people along the way.
A week after making his debut in a demoralising 50-point hammering at the hands of Gold Coast, Nanva was part of an Eels side missing eight regular first-graders that claimed a 38-20 win over Canterbury on Sunday.
Nanva, who was lavished with praise for his defensive work by Brad Fittler and Billy Slater on the Nine Network, is believed to be the first Kurdish player to feature in the NRL.

He is proud of the fact he speaks the Sorani dialect at home with his parents, who migrated to Australia the year before he was born.
The region of Kurdistan straddles modern-day Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey and its people, who have sought independence, have frequently faced persecution.
"I'm of Kurdish background and for those that don't know it's one of the biggest ethnic populations without a country. I'm very proud to be Kurdish," Nanva told AAP.
"I'm from the Iranian part. My mum, dad and brother came over in 2003 and I was born a year later and my parents worked very hard to raise me and my brother.
"I've got a lot of love from all the other Kurdish people watching and I appreciate that and I'm doing the best I can.
"Not many people know about us, so to put them on the map like that is huge."
Nanva had a solid showing against the Bulldogs as the Eels moved to a 3-4 start to the season.
The 22-year-old is comfortable with the fact that he may make way next week if Sean Russell, who was late scratching on Sunday, is cleared to face Manly.
"No one is happy about the injuries but it opens up opportunities for the boys like me to try and do our best for the team," he said.

Good on him. He has done a very good job. It is great to get some recognition for the Kurdish people. They are a fairly peaceful people even though they have been oppressed and persecuted.
Does anyone know much about Nanva? Was he in our SG Ball teams for example?

Nanva gave Curran an absolute bath on the weekend. A shame he’s likely to make way as I feel he’s got something about him. Obviously very early days but he reminded me a bit of Opacic, very sound defensively.
After watching him on Sunday

He should be above the pecking order now on 2 outside backs we currently have in our outside backs in the top 30 (Tago & Renisini)

I personally pick him ahead of Brian Kelly now whenever one of the centres are out.

Were wasting our time with Kelly while we can develop Nanva into a competent first grade outside back.

His jersey presentation was beautiful. His uncle / cousin did the talking. Mum n Dad were in the background. The family are Eels tragics.
