Rumours (signings, sackings & other NRL stuff)

Yeah but why compare him to Walsh? ...walsh has had half of a great season. How about Ponga?..1.4 apparently to give the knights a game dominant effort if and / or when the mood strikes. Bula was one that has improved a lot this year...particularly with his involvement in attack. We've gotta string at least 2 or 3 seasons together with the same spine... IMO his progress justifies gambling a few hundred k
*Having said that...totally convinced that Moses is hard at work to move him to "his" contract somewhere else and will ensure that "his client" Bula gets weary of the constant drama that will come if he stays
Some really good points.

Ponga is of the gravest concern for the knights.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him moved on sooner, even pay another club something to get rid of him.

I hope he watched Reece in the grand final and drank plenty of uppercut flavoured milkshakes. Then again, the knights folded. He just saw them coming.

His dad should go into player agency. Make a killing. Ice to eskimos.

It stops at Benji.. and everything he does now if he can is to make up for the Luai price tag.. if he can.. starting with Bulla.. I’m sure Benji wants Bulla to stay. Bulas been great..and visa Versa .. but Benjis in a far more powerful position now with a very nice reputation on top of his star power..than when that bulla contract was done.. and a lot more confidence in his ability to recruit any player .. everyone knows they will get the love from Benji.. I’m not convinced it’s a holiday camp but if it’s more so than other clubs or at least a less threatening environment, it’ll be hard for Bulla to leave..I think Benjis at the point now where he will be enjoying the wheeling and dealing. Unlike Madge as coach I think most potential players would at least like a chat with Benji. To see what he’s got for them. And The current wt players will know that. No bastard wanted to join up when Madge was coach.. pretty much. And if they did they turned out no good to us anyway

I’m pretty confident history will show that Madge is a much better coach than Benji is or ever will be.

Which is not to suggest Madge should have struggled on…but I still think he should have seen out the season.

Instead it was party time with Lee and Co. The whole club became a grotesque play thing for the rich and incompetent.

For better or worse, Benji was not appointed on actual merit and his results reflect that. He’s still the worst NRL coach by a long way.

Which is not his fault, but ours.

The surrender at the end of last season, with a close to full strength side, it was near catastrophic. Unless we adopt modest standards, but I’m not in that camp.

I hope I’m wrong in 26, but I think the improvement has been too slow and spectacularly lethargic.

Just my own view, but alas not much can be done about it.

I’m putting a lot on KPP and jock should come back not entirely toothless.

you are more outspoken about Madge being better than Benji will ever be, than one of your supporters. The other one only marginally
I don’t have any supporters lol.

I made the concession that Madge had to go but I didn’t think his recruitment was as bad as others thought. The connection wasn’t what it could have been once they arrived. He was struggling.

Per the nrl, the record shows that Madge is currently the best coach in the nrl. He’s won two premierships at two different clubs.

Benji currently presents with 29% success rate. It’s pretty poor and reflects his lack of meaningful coaching experience before he was anointed. He really should have done his apprenticeship.

To his credit, he’s admitted to making many mistakes.

And as a Richo-watcher, he’s all over the shop in what he says, but he has definitely brought some good things too. He doesn’t like admitting to mistakes.

It’s like a politician, they can do good and bad things.

I just haven’t seen enough in Benji to think he’s able to thread the needle.

I’m not suggesting he isn’t trying or it doesn’t keep him up at night.

But it’s not in him. He can’t be good at everything.

Maybe it was mainly the squad.

He has done better than Madge. I don't see him as a better coach than Madge. Madge has done it all. Benji though to me has improved the squad.

I think he has been pretty good but the old team put Benji in charge. We haven't done anything yet but maybe we are a club that is turning around. I wouldn't want to see Richo get all the credit if we do get better because it's going to take so many different factors to go our way including some luck.

All fair comments, sure.

Too late, I’ve already said it!

I’m not alone in my skepticism of Benji and co capabilities. I just might be more outspoken than others.

I am aware that it’s not a popular view, but I’m comfortable with it.
They all started from scratch and Benji has had less training granted.
I don't like to look down a barrel of a gun and dare the gunman to pull the trigger assuming the gun is unloaded.
Give the man a chance.
Are you saying that if Benji had as much experience as Madge did prior coaching at souths led by a freak of a forward and inherited teams such as souths and an international team like Broncos that benji would fail. How was madge at the tigers. It was his team. He could've refused the job.
Clearey took over a shambles of a club and made a difference before taking the panthers to gf victories.
Bang, it was loaded.

With the miracle recruitment, courtesy of Benji I think tempering our rage is fair for now.. I’ll be looking out for what Benji going to do about Luai.. If he allows Luai to continue on his merry way with his stop start, change direction delayed passing leading to problems out wide rubbish then for me he can take the blame..
for Luai with his confidence down such an unproductive and now ingrained habit I think will be season defining. There are definitely options there but Benji needs to be assertive and after 0-3 I think he will be

We need more from JL, no disagreement from me.

Benji’s recruitment has been better on paper, but he’s not getting optimal performances…when that’s the whole idea.

He has been pretty soft and spongy publicly about our shortcomings and individual brain snaps. I suppose it’s because it runs counter to his individual beliefs and philosophies.

It’s his style or way and it’s central to his being.

I agree that pre-Madge Kevvie and co played a large part in Madge’s success, but he still got them pumping and made key decisions.

Broncos management made some brave and stellar decisions. The hangover approaches though.

I don't think he is worth $750,000, though Perth and PNG may change the pricing.

I would be going to the negotiating table stating we have a $650,000 per year contract for three years if he signs now or we are happy for him to take the $750,000 and wait until mid next season to negotiate a different number based on form at the time, which might be a higher or lower amount.

I think we’ve all shot our load on Madges ability rating like-ability or lack of etc ..the varying opinions are pretty Crystal clear at this point

Not a bad submission.

I’d be leaking rumours that Garrick is just about on board for 3years @ 600k and Bula could be excess to requirements.

Bring him down a few notches before he tries it on.

Richo has friends in the media, he should make a few calls for a quiet dinner.

I’ve consummated my love of Garrick’s game with an avatar spot.

Geez, I’d love to sign him.

We might have too many risky X factors in the backline who partake in injurious risks, when we need a steady gump. Take the tackle and a quick play the ball. He can kick too. It’s second nature to him. No more telegraphing days ahead.

He’s low on mistakes and plays the whole season. That’s almost unimaginable for us.

Given Skels fall from grace and Turuva going to fullback at some point, we could do a lot worse.
