That's a very mediocre selection we have for number 6 if it is between two blokes who might be good enough for first grade in the year 2006. Come on people, let's not kid ourselves here with the choice between these two exremely rank players.
Put Vagana in at number 6 and shuffle the centres. The centre position can be the one that quite a few can compete for until we get someone who can make and break tackles in that position.
I have one very bold and precise prediction for the season 2004 - Greg Bird will be responsible for far more errors than he will be for flashes of brilliance.

As in the last thread,
Reick won't be there if Merrit is.
Merrit won't be there if Reick is.
I don't think either will be, initially. Merrit to eventually.
Vaganas gone until the semis by the sounds.
Sully will be bench.
No Bird.
& I don't thin Stevo will start the season either.
He looks extremely unfit.

Peachey
Merrit (gk)
Vagana
Franze
Reick (on notice)
Hilder
Kimmorley (C)
Stevens
Sullivan
Beattie
Lomu
Gallen
Bailey

Nutley
Russo
Bosnich
Bird

Aitken, Simmons, R Williams, and Galloway all to be brought through slowly like last year.

I have picked Hilder at 5/8th because I am not sure if Aitken is ready yet. When he is I would have Hilder go back to lock. Hilder will go well there because he will basically be playing a locks role anyway. Peachey will play 5/8th in attack not that Kimmorley needs a 5/8th but it will take some pressure of him. We bought Vagana because we needed a centre, now we have him and we want to make him a 5/8th? Please. Bailey goes into lock, a pos'n he will relish and Lomu can start in the second row where he can be our major ball playing forward. Reick will need to play very well to hold his spot in front of McGoldrick, Kent, Emelio, Pelo and the like. The rest of the side picks itself IMO.

Aitken, if he's put on a bit of weight will by season's end be the first choice 5/8th. His kicking game is absolute class, one that Johns and Kimmorley would be happy with. He just needs a bit of bulk to take being targeted in defence and so on.

The issue of weight for mine is a myth.
The number 1 5/8 in the comp last year came in at 78 kilos.
If your 5/8 has the goods, then you play him, & adjust the team to compensate.
Faith in ability & sufficient intelligence to shape the team accordingly, are coaching decisions that win grand finals.

I haven't seen enough of the Symmonds & aitkens or even Sully for that.
The thief is my choice.
But looks like he might be gone until the semis.

No way. We bought Vagana to play in the bloody centres. Just because he had a good game for NZ there doesn't mean he can produce it all the time. You know, when NZ made their charge late in that game, he wasn't even playing 5/8th, he was playing fullback, that's when the big combination with Toopi eventuated. His defence in that pos'n is a query also. We need a guy who tackles like a lock forward on both sides of the ruck. Pick 2 locks and watch our defence improve.

hhhmmm, maybe.
Unfortunate nick name given to Nige because of his ability to intercept.

One thing that could possibly keep him in the left centre position.

Huuuuuuuuuge forward pack. It would be up their with the Warriors in terms of size. I've been against Hilder at 5/8 but he must start and I can't fit him into the forwards. Plus bring on SS fav player at 5/8 and then move Hilder into the backrow for when a big guy wants to come off.

BTR can you explain what you meant about those players not being there? I mean is there any reason eg off season or the new coach.

Who would you start on the wings? I'm one of the biggest Rieck haters around and didn't pick him but I wouldn't mind to see how he goes with a full season with Franze or Vags

Reick needs to go to tray waiter school or an egg packing factory by day.
At night, he needs to go to dance school & dance the tango or some othr complicated dance routine.
Perhaps these regular jobs will stop him being what I like to refer to as " the clumsiest rugby league player ever"
