Just aired tonight (30th of October) in Australia and the day before in the USA, Russell Crow while on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno wich is viewed by about 5.7 million people (31% of the total audience in that time slot) a night, was on the show promoting his new movie American Gangster and the South Sydney Rabbitohs clash with the Leeds Rhinos that will be taking place at Jacksonville Florida.

Whilst on the show, Russell told the story of the Rabbitohs over the past year from coming last to breaking a 18 year hoodoo in making the Finals. Although Jay Leno still called it Rugby rather then Rugby League, he did also say that he would promote the match against the Leeds Rhinos.

This is once again great promotion for the game in the USA and Russell is taking the game to almost no mans land.

He just doesn't stop does he! I know he does it for mostly selfish purposes (that probably sounds negative but I don't mean it in that way) but I really think he ought to get some recognition from the RLIF as a spokesman or something. I don't know if he'd take it up but it should be offered to him at least.

Crowe has been doing good things for the International game for a number of years.
I have been to his 7s event in Coffs for the last three years and have had the pleasure of seeing USA, Japan, Fiji, Cook Islands and Malta all play full scale games as well as seeing all those sides and many others go around in the 7s.

Surely he needs some sort of role with the World Cup. Even Peter HaC has been very positive about the international side of the game. I wish they were running the World Cup.

Russell also owns a Malta rugby league jersey which he purchased from the merchandise stand at Orara Valley two years ago.

However the tournament wont be going ahead in 2008.

He is doing a great job all over for us over here in the USA too.
Just a note for 1iT, Rugby is used ofr both codes over here. Given that there are only 10 RL teams in the whole USA we are happy to have it used in reference of both codes as it allows the Union boys to get involved too.

Rusty is a legend in my books.

He has shown us how easy it is to promote Rugby League. Basically he uses every opportunity he has to promote the game.

The ARL and NRL waste so many opportunities to promote the game. For example, during the finals series in 2006, we had packed stadiums and great TV figures but there was barely a mention of the tri nations. At the perfect time, when there is a huge market all hyped over rugby league, the ARL fell silent.

Rugby League generates enough publicity, it's just that we don't use that publicity wisely. RL identities need to be more positive. We have the greates game on earth, lets sing it's praises more often! Players need to be geed up more to talk about the upcoming world cup. Players get interviewed all the time and should be encouraged to speak about their world cup dreams etc..you know what I mean...all that BS that the Union boys bang-on about every time they get a chance to speak.

Ali is so so right. Russell needs to be collared by Gallop/Love for lunch and for the three of them to work out a formal arrangement where Crowe becomes the official spokesperson/ad go to man of the RLWC.

RL has been going since 1895. I would venture to say that we have NEVER EVER had remotely even close to a better, more high profile, spokesperson than him, and one who is already getting his hands dirty.

Such opportunities cannot be allowed to drift away. They happen once in a lifetime, or to be precise, once in 112 years (and counting)....
