How can that be? The average NRL player cuts it doesn't he?
More often than not, no. Most NRL players are a cut above other footy players. You only have to compare bush footy to the NRL. You don't get a gig in the NRL without the potential to be a stand out player. The average footballer often gets dropped to first division. The average footballer plays more bad games than good, fails to live up to potential, and then gets a gig with the Castleford Tigers.
Do you contend that only above average players cut it in the NRL?
Yes, if they expect to continue employment as NRL footballers. The NRL is an elite competition, the players are supposedly the best of the best.
Would be interesting to list the current Sharks mob and say who is average and who is below/above average.
We probably had too many average to below average players in the squad last year.
Here's 3
David Simmons - is he below average, average or above average?
average to below average. If he doesn't improve send him to ESL as well.
Noddy - is he below average, average or above average?
above average
Kinga - is he below average, average or above average?
average, with the potential to develop into an above average player.
You wouldn't have many players to pick a team from Sheros if you only wanted those above average. In fact there wouldn't be a comp/
I look at past Sharks teams that have gone the closest to winning us a comp, (for example 1978), and from memory these sides were strong from fullback to prop. No dead wood making up the numbers like our sides of the last few years. Of course I want every position in the Sharks line up to ooze class, that's what I hoped would happen under Anderson, instead we got luminaries like Tweedle, Milford, Seers, Emelio and Wessels.
BTW those Tigers, the ones that won the comp, had plenty of average players in their side.
No too many weaknesses in my opinion. Fitzhenry, Payten maybe. As a unit they were dynamite.
