how can you get in someones face when your being held back by 3 players?

hold up, it was soward being held, not knightingale, n billy didnt come running in, he was originally in it, the original push n shove was billy n soward

Did you watch the game? Billy clearing wasn't originally in it, it was Soward and Cronk then Slater ran in

Lets look at the facts:

- Slater had nothing to do with the play
- He ran across to another player who had nothing to do with the play.
- Israel Falaou had Nightingale's hands held back, Slater proceeded to punch.

I'm all for 1 on 1 biffs, bring it back.
But this was dog. Would Billy have done it to Justin Poore or Jason Ryles?
I think not.

Simple conclusion:
There are leaguies, then there are those that think they are leaguies.

Slater fits into the 2nd category.

Careful This Year, dont start ruining Calixte's day by proving he's completely wrong.

Alexander must have had his glasses on too?

Worst send off I can ever recall.

At worst, give a penalty, but if Badger was concerned that the game was going to explode again, then take the next step and throw him off for 10.

Imagine if that happened in a Semi?

He should be in reggies for the rest of the year, at the least.

I've already said the send-off was too literal but was an error in interpretation.

Otherwise, the ref was OK.

Alexander...

watch the replay, it started between slater n soward, moved to the sideline got broken apart, then knightingale was defending slater n billy started on him...

i dont agree with the ryles send off, unfortunately he is like paul gallen, has a name n wears a target

hmmm i'm not so sure dude. having not seen a replay today i'm not gonna say you're totally wrong but from what i remember watching it live on fox then the million replays they showed, there was a bit of a scuffle, push n shove, etc and then you see slater come flying in from the left side of the screen and start throwing them.

and i wouldn't put ryles in totally the same league as gallen but yeh they both do get targeted cuz of their names and reputations, just in kinda different ways

Either Crocker or Lima firstly stood on Ryles' foot first, then Ryles did it to them, then Crocker or Lima kicked Ryles, then Ryles kicked them! None of the events were a send off, but the instigator (ie Storm player) should have been sent if any!! absolute joke. Imagine if it was not at Olympic Park - the crowd would have gone nuts!

Yea he was provoked but lets face it, the moron (ryles) did it back about 3 times and was clearly to blame and as always the one caught out for it. He is the dumbest footballer alive and once again proved it.

Slater has been a cheap shot merchant for a few years now..he has always shown poor sportsmanship in numerous situations..it is a mixture of him being a premeirship and Origin series winner, earning a large amount of money and being quite uneducated in general..I think he will overstep the mark with a large forward one day and have his jaw broken..after this you may see his conduct improve!

Badger got it wrong, Finch says

From staff reporters
July 22, 2008 GAVIN Badger made the wrong decision in sending off Jason Ryles during Monday night's spiteful game between St George Illawarra and Melbourne, NRL referees boss Robert Finch says.
Badger was close to losing total control of the match before sending off Ryles in the 25th minute for what seemed a minor offence.

Finch admitted to Fox Sports that he didn’t think Badger or any other current NRL referee had been so close to losing control.

"We haven’t something like that for a very long time,"Finch said exclusively to Fox Sports.

"Bill Harrigan was probably the last referee to have been involved in a game of that wild nature."

Finch refused to divulge whether Badger would be stood down from first-grade duties, with the referees boss to conduct a three-hour debriefing with the embattled whistle blower later in the week, but the whistle blower has not been handed an appointment for round 20 of the NRL premiership

Cronulla coach Ricky Stuart meanwhile ensured that Finch’s week remains busy by claiming the Storm have reverted to their “grapple tackle” ways of wrestling players around the head.

Stuart claims the NRL has eased its policing of grapple tackles in recent weeks, enabling the Storm to go back to controversial wrestling techniques which he believed contributed to the ill feeling in their win over the Dragons.

"The month or six-week period where the referees are jumping on top of it is over," Stuart said on Sydney’s 2KY radio station.

"Now they're (Melbourne) back into it again and it's coming into the most important stage of the season.

"We don't coach it, we don't train it. I, like any coach, will do as much as you have to do to win but I won't wrestle a player around the head.

"I'll put my chin out there again (by speaking out) to get it whacked but someone has to do it because it shouldn't be in the game."

But Finch hit back at Stuart’s claims, stating that his men had not slackened their policing of the controversial tackle and that NRL referees would continue to make that area of the game a priority.

Stuart was also highly critical of the performance of Badger, with the Sharks and Australia coach saying the game’s administrators would be red faced when Ryles was playing again this weekend.

"It was unnecessary and nowhere near a send-off report," Stuart said.

"The thing you've got to look at now is how embarrassing it's going to be when (the NRL match review committee) let him off for a send-off decision.

"(St George Illawarra) lost the opportunity to win the game ... what happened last night was a joke."
