Changing the coach won't improve the results while the players aren't stung by losing.

Pretty obvious being in newie, getting treated like a rockstar, playing footy for a living and collecting $x00k win lose or draw is plenty enough for most of them.

For all his faults at least you know Pearce hated losing. That leadership vacuum is immense. Don't see that changing while we've got a goofy kid that struggles to string a sentence together as captain.

Klemmer is the obvious choice as leader. He just does. A year ago I thought with the Safs form and wages going up in a big way, that he would prove to be too expensive from a cap point of view, and we were better letting him go. I now believe he should not only be our skipper but letting him leave will be on par with BK going.

The word has always been that Klem doesn't want it and is generally not much of a leader off the field, which is why he's never even been in the leadership group - let alone captain.

If Klem don’t want it then Frizell is the obvious choice with Gags when/if he is not on field.
I would go Frizell even ahead of Brailey

Pearce was part of the problem not the solution.
Everyone could see he was on his last legs in the NRL.
He should’ve been tapped on the shoulder a lot earlier.
Reynolds/Hynes and even Johnson were off contract last year but since the club left it too late they ended putting all their eggs into one basket to nab Brooks.

Yeah Pearce might have won the game for Newcastle on Sunday but if anything Crossland was doing same midfield bombs that Pearce was famous for.

Slots isn't saying we shouldn't have gotten rid of Pearce. He's saying that we shouldn't have gotten rid of Pearce without replacing the things he brings to the team. And he's 100% correct.

Our roster isnt really the issue. Most of the same guys out there were on the paddock when they blew the Roosters off the park

The issue is coaching and culture and neither seem to be changing any time soon. Bellamy can take any of our backups and make them first graders, I have zero doubt in this. Looks at what he did with Josh King who no one wanted in our 17 for years. Sure he had a few half decent games last year but the fact is he was spoken about in the same terms as most of the guys mentioned in this thread. A plodder with a low ceiling who wouldnt make any good teams roster

Clear evidence that this club simply doesnt have the means, knowledge or nouce to squeeze the juice out of the orange

I don't live in Newy so I wanted to ask lads who do:

It's clear everyone on the forums here is super upset at the form the club is in. Is the city as a whole the same? Or everyone okay with it? What's the general sentiment?

Interesting given he was so upset over Lomax’ imbecilic carry on Re Friz after full time. Of course I am Assuming based on the evidence I saw. Maybe it was more than that one moment. He actually sought him out. You’d think he was the target. Can’t imagine KP confronting a player and defending a teammate.

Klems a bit too much of a hot head to be captain tbh

It works for him as a prop on the field but not the personality trait you want in an on field leader when a cool decision needs to be made. I think he recognises that in himself too

Newcastle isn't the Knights town it was 20 years ago, especially with kids. Probably because they've been shit since before they were born. I see more European football, big bash and US sports jerseys on kids than the knights.

So it depends who you ask, but ranges from apathy to disappointment, but most people don't care enough to be really angry would be my take.

This is most towns these days tbh

Outside of footy training, i never see young kids wearing NRL gear

Crazy to hear and very disappointing... The club rested in its laurels and basically lost the city. I wonder if it'll ever get better.

I think the word “bogan” is generally associated with those who do.

And no one wants to be seen wearing the same gear as a “bogan”.

I don’t know how you make it cool to wear NRL gear. Do Melbournians wear AFL gear often?

Americans back their sports like crazy so it is seen as a badge of honor to represent your mob.

doesnt Frizell have an option in his favour after this year? He might very well choose to go to the Dolphins as well.

Signing Finucane would have been looking pretty good right about now.
Disagree actually. See him knock himself out against the Storm early in the game?

That's the risk that comes with him. Certainly has that leadership we seek, but not really the playing ability or health reliability.

“The Warriors presented me with an opportunity to further my game,” said Barnett.

“I have personal goals of playing representative football and I am also looking forward to working with Brownie again.

“The Warriors impressed me on and off the field which made my decision easier.”

Brown brought Barnett back to Newcastle in June in 2016 where he immediately made his debut for the club in a loss to the Vodafone Warriors.

Interesting quotes, very similar to
Watson and King before departing the club.
