I'm against having Klemmer and 2x Saifiti in the same team. They're pretty much clones of each other and I don't think it's possible to carry all three in first grade. Don't really care which of them leaves.

In an ideal world I agree but who do we have that is of a similar standard and offers something different? The reality is our squad depth is about as thin as cling wrap

Outside of last year the Saifiti's have historically been slow starters most seasons, especially Daniel. Their form the past few weeks has even been a microcosm of that - bad start and then much improved second stints.

Daniel seems out of shape. Jacob only a few weeks ago was by far the best prop on the field in a game our forwards dominated without his brother or Klemmer. He started struggling once Daniel came back, for whatever reason.

Teams are jamming in on them in numbers to not let them get momentum to land on their front and get a quick play the ball, which is arguably both of their biggest strengths. The obvious adjustment is to get them the ball an extra pass off the ruck and I imagine we'll see more of that going forward.

I stand by Klemmer's contract being far too big for the impact he has on games. Even if he maintains his trial/round 1 form when he returns you're looking at a ~$500k player being paid a lot more than that.

This is precisely one of the reasons this thread exists, you could say...

Don't hear about the Storm or Panthers' players warming into the season. They start hot and end hot. That's the standards they set.

and if you score against them they chase to the very end and not drop their heads and allow you to improve position under the posts.

They play to the whistle and to the last second of play. Just winning isnt good enough, they want to win well.

Anyone remember the 2020 draw we had with the Panthers ? How long it's been since the team busted their guts like that

Isn't it funny how not being happy with his performances is automatically interpreted as wanting to get rid of him...

Isn't it funny how obsessed people are on an internet forum with told-ya-so's and being smug as hell about everything...
Firstly, im not talking about criticism. I'm referring to the very large number of posters who wanted him to be let go or traded etc, completely undervaluing his importance to this teams pack

Secondly, being smug is what forums are for. You of all people should understand that

Because he’s hasn’t missed many games since he’s been up here you tend to take what he provides for granted sometimes.

The guy is absolute machine who never plays badly.

He’s one of our best ever signings imo.
I don't think hes been as good as he could be, or was at the Dogs, but as others have said there is nobody more consistently good for us when he plays.

The rules did not suit him at all last year, and unlike the 1 dimensional smuggy take from Druss above - I can actually acknowledge the reasons why people might have wanted to move him on. They fixed the rules and I believe he's better off for it.

By all reports he also had a massive off season, and I think it was showing on the field.

And finally, it's also understandable when you have 2 fit and firing Saifitis that you see a reduced need for Klem - they're the same type of prop. The Saifitis are in the toilet to start the season, so Klems worth goes up by default.

In general though - as you said - he's consistent. You know what you're going to get from him. I still think he's overpaid for what he does - but at least you know you're going to get it every single week.

Klemmer has an offload and short pass in him. If he used these more often, I think he would fit right in with modern props.

1 rule has changed for this year mate, the penalty in the 40m zone as opposed to 6 again

Fact is the vast majority of this forum were too short sighted to see Klems value and are now seeing the effects of his absence. He was taken for granted cause he was always there

Call me smug all you want (lol the irony) but it's warranted to point out the sudden turn around in attitude towards him

1000%

Dan is generally pretty good but Jacob is a coin flip as to whether he's going to shit the bed.

Also, in the final last year the only reason we didn't get lapped by Parra was Klem standing up to their forwards. Jacob was MIA and Dan did ok in the second stint but got pushed around in the first.
