All of this rubbish could've been avoided IF we just paid Hook out in October and appointed Des or Flanagan to take over from Nov 1.

But of course our tight arse owner/split board didn't want to spend any $$ to pay Hook out.
Yep they wasted this year already knowing they didn't want Hook, but not willing to pay out his contract. This situation can create no other alternative than a poor season.

They were Top 8 snd finished 4th the year before snd had great attack and speed
They were not doing that bad
Meanwhile whilst we were floundering pre and post Bennett he has won 2 GFs and did take the Dogs to a further 2 and had been a regular Top 8 achiever 🥹
Not bad don’t you think
Announce and sign him up now
I will say it again the Dogs had an administration team CEO etc snd BOD to balance the books and alert Des to their position or could of said no
Des could not destroy the cap alone
They finished top four in 2021, which was the bs blowout, six again ruining the game year. Massive asterisk next to that entire year as a whole, it wasn't even rugby league. They had turbo uninjured that year who suited that style to a tee, as did Saab. Before the jersey debacle last year, they looked really average, they weren't going to make the 8 whether it happened or not. According to many Manly fans, Des is not what he once was as a coach.

Yesterday's meeting was about approval to take the next step with the candidates they have in mind or have expressed interest. That to me already signals Hooks fate. However, if these candidates back out or decline then keeping Hook on the hook so to speak is fair enough.

As I said yesterday, a lot of media 'scoops' will emerge, related and unrelated to our coaching dilemma. For example:
Young has declined even processing to the next phase. I believe that is a good thing.
Bellamy weighing up 1 more year, which directly coincides with Ryles finishing up at the Roosters.
Some Facebook pundits suggested that Des was given the green light with Hornby as assistant. Later that was revoked to say Hornby would not accept an assistant role, he wants straight to HC.

A clearer picture will emerge after next week's ANZAC game. Particularly if we are flogged mercilessly.

Next Board meeting isn't until May, where I believe some decision could be made then. of course there's always the crises emergency meeting they can fall back on.

So, sit back and let it all unfold.
We really dont have a choice but to sit back and let it unfold do we....after Bennett we sat back and watched the Price years
Then we sat back and watched the McGregor years now we sit back and watch the Griffin years...and then it will be sitting back and watching the whoever years.....for most on here sacking Griffin is whats required yesterday and they may well be right.... most will say its a start in the right direction but tbh Im not so sure whether a Hasler, Flanagan Bellamy or the like can get some of our blokes to perform any better....theres a lot of stock taking to be carried out before we resemble anything like we were in our better years

Do the media believe Ryles is interested in the job?
Oh I hope so, Ryles, Hornby, Young, maybe Barrett as a consultant, Brownie on recruitment.

Time to bring back the old boys, this Qld school teacher does not get it.

Ashton Sims defence consultant...

Yeh righto
You have your opinion and I guess it is not Des
BTW tell that to Penrith who won their 1st run of GF’s recently how it was a BS year
What a terrible rationale to say Manly we’re duds that year to prove your point
What about the rest of the strong clubs that fell in the top 8 that year
You reckon they were Duds too !
And how many Manly supporters did you speak to that were convinced they would not make the 8. They were looking Ok although got beaten by us the week before Pridegate
We will never know that will we

Hunt to 9. Lids whenever needed.

Suli to 7 and the kicker. Pay overs for Whighton.
Sloan out back.

The Illawarra juniors will produce some forwards sooner rather than later.

Also, if a club can pay overs for amone. We are on our way.

Just spitballing gents.

Coach wise,. Flanno has my vote.

If we do get Flanno, I really hope we don't also sign Kyle Flanagan & in the process loses Sullivan.

Flanno nor Des should have total control over signings imo.

You all realise that the board need to agree unanimously about coaching decisions? Hence, asking this board to hire someone quickly is like searching for a dodo bird.

And the fact Doust doesn’t like Flanno just screws the club leaving them with no choice and makes it harder to be unanimous due to his stubbornness

If Saints board were logical which they aren't by the looks of things, Flanno would be in asap as he already has been at the club and worked on the list so most of the work of a new coach is done. All Flanno will need to do is put the players in their correct spots now and select a strong team that will win not just pick a team on mateship and Saints will be on the improve. Getting Hasler he will need to start from the basics.

@Wolfgang90 - I totally agree and hope if Saints get Flanno he does not bring his son at the expense of Bud. You never know that may be the stumbling block why Doust does not want him. If so good on Doust. It would sort of make sense. God knows what happens behind closed doors with the Saints. Siebold coming out and endorsing Flanno to leave if the job comes up may seem that the Saints have definitely had the chat with his assistant.

Surely they can get the Recruitment Manager that is Browny over the line ASAP and not wait for the coaching appointment. Unless Hasler is really in the mix and Scott Fulton is part of his entourage.

Listening to Haran on the Pod, he may be also getting frustrated with the coaching situation and I feel he is waiting for a change. If he did set up the team list and Hook went against him on Sunday and replaced Liddle for Mbye last minute then you can see why. It was a huge screw up and if the NRL did fine the club and Hook made the issue you would think that would be the end of it. Haran sounds like his recruitment is being stalled because of Hook rather than who will be replacing him.

Maybe they are waiting for the Anzac game to be over so they don't overshadow the week with a new coach and let the NRL Media focus on this special round for the guys that made a huge sacrifice for this country.

It's not unusual for the board to reach a consensus and then vote unanimously. Dissention is almost unheard of.
