GS - The coach definitely has a big role role to play and I don't doubt Widdop is a good footballer but the common denominator in our clunky attack and lack of game management last 3 years has been Widdop.
I found it interesting that Bennett chose to put the best 5/8 of 2017 (and players" choice etc.) at FB for the WC.
IMO there are at least 3 or 4 specialist five eighths that are better than Widdop in the comp - especially if the criteria is winning premierships.
I realize my views on this are not mainstream but maybe I am just getting a little impatient for some hard edged results for a change.
Really? Widdop is the only common denominator of the last 3 years and the only contributor to our attack? There hasnt been anything else in the last few years which a huge influence on team selection, attacking structure and overall game plan?

Widdop is a very, very good footballer, he's a creative player and he has some great skills. Organising the troops while being the only focal point of attack is not one of them. Game management is also not one of them (although he's not completely terrible in this regard - maybe a pass mark?). But as a 5/8, he is good. The problem is that he is trying to do too much (which is of his own doing as much as Mary's). If he calmed the f**k down and played his natural game, he'd be fine. Mary is a far, far bigger blight on our attack than Widdop.

And Bennett put him to fullback because his 1st string fullback went down injured and they had a backup 5/8. It was out of necessity to suit the team balance. Nothing more.

We will get hard edged results when we get a proper coach.....

OKB, you are either unemployed or retired with too much time on your hands. I'm voting 1 Fudd

I'm a self employed builder who would like to be retired as we speak, with not as much time on my hands as you may think.

I'm trying to charge more, work less with semi retirement staring me in the face.

My motto for new perspective clients is ...........

"I might be slow but boy, am l rough ........and expensive ............. and old."

Seems to work, people keep ringing me.

After reading your post, I am not sure that we disagree that much.
The issue of Widdop's selection at FB is still a question mark.
I know the first string fullback was injured but when was the last time Widdop played FB?
Bennet made the switch on spec and it worked out.

He put him at fullback because their fullback got injured and they didn't have a viable alternative. Stop trying to insinuate that Bennett preferred him at fullback. It was out of necessity.
I am not insinuating anything.
Widdop was no certainty to hold down one of the halves spots.
Bennet has shown in the past that he rates the ESL halves highly and is happy to use them..
Widdop's second half against Lebanon was ordinary which also prompted the Widdop FB experiment.
Lomax was injured but Bennett did have other options for FB.
Instead, he gambled with Widdop and it paid off.
If Widdop was first choice 5/8 then no way Bennett would have shifted him to FB.

Funny you should say Widdop needs to calm down, as I've always felt he looked stressed. Running the attack, field kicking, goal kicking, mopping up in defence and captaining the side is just too much for the poor bugger, I personally think he should play lock- he's big enough- and James Graham should get the captaincy as the ref won't understand him when he lets fly with expletive insults.

No-it was just a dream- go back to sleep and set your alarm for 2/10/2018 when having already crashed out of contention yet again, the excuses for Mary may have finally run out- after all, he was the one who recently said that he finally had the team that he wanted.

Did he not say that two years ago, and again last year?

OKB1 mate , your on the right track when you say keep the the tools handy , as there will always be someone who would like something or other built by especially a retired builder . When you move into this phase of your life you become a ' craftsmen ' and no longer a builder - better dollars for you to feather your nest with . Hope it's not in the too distant future.

Hey OKB I can see a great partnership happening here . You can do the building & McWrecker the painting. An unstoppable team. Just not sure if Bankruptcy or retirement will come first .
Only assuming he paints as well as he coaches & no offence to you

Anthony Griffin is under pressure at Penrith. He has got his team into the finals in his two seasons there, he is the man responsible for blooding a great player and future superstar Nathan Cleary. Griffin has got Brisbane to the finals as well, most times and I believe quite far in it. The man has a 55% win rate as a head coach. Yet he is under pressure.
And at the Dragons SuperCoach is under no pressure whatsoever. He has coached for 4 years, he has got his team to the finals once, just limping in, and they lost straight away too. SuperCoach has a 46% win rate. Yet he is under no pressure from anybody at this club.
