Why did the Dragons only start playing football in the last 10 minutes? Where did that come from?
Just answer me that.
This coach is no man motivator.
The coach's motivational words should be ringing in the players' heads as they run onto the field - ready to spill blood for the coach, club & fans.
Afraid of failure like the AllBlacks.
Look at an AllBlack captain after a loss.
It's the face of shame
Widdop was jovial, smug ... no worries
They have each other's backs and the wanking's mutual. No recriminations in this mutual admiration society - and boys it's all OK ... no one gets dropped & we've overachieved anyway ... Cheers
(Oh and fu*k the fans)
And I was gob smacked to hear him say: "I hope it's not attitude"
FFUUUUCCMD!
Mate you're in way over your head.
You don't even understand that.
And you'd be totally incapable of addressing it anyway FFS.
It's endgame Doust
The listless, lazy starts I'm reading about suggest to me a lack of fear and respect engendered by a coach who's 'one of the boys', whose solution to glaring attitudinal issues is to 'sit down and have a talk about it ... play to our standards'
All cosy theoretical matey stuff, paying lip service to & papering over the widening & predictable cracks in the edifice.
They play well in the last 10 minutes because that's the only time they feel fear all week.
It's not therefore a fitness issue per se.
They don't respect the coach as a coach with real presence, with that mongrel 'you'll win this at all costs & leave nothing out there' Gibson/Bath/Provan/Bellamy/AllBlack fear factor.
Mary's soft, unobtrusive & sets the expectation bar way too low.
But hey nice and comfortable. .... Like going through the motions.
No grind. Easy as down here at Jubilee ...one big happy half day out.
That's why just making the 8 is the goal - winning the flag a bridge too far, playing your guts out for a full 80 minutes? geez we'll leave that for the indefinable future, after another great preseason maybe.
Yeah right 'play what's in front of you' .... One out, bash and barge...
No technical, tactical nous , finesse - or the rat cunning of Flanagan or Bellamy. Mary's an easy touch for rival coaches.
They have his measure because there's nothing much there to challenge the intellect. I feel sorry for him, but as a fan also cheated by him.
And of course he has almost deliberately and systematically sabotaged our usable depth by his aversion to youth ( oh yeah that's right it's the myopic and personal perspective again - he had to wait till he was 24 was it for an NRL gig, so the young fuc*ers can wait their turn or go elsewhere who cares we're tight here and cosysafe with my anointed 17 my mates... Blah, blah, blah).
Affronted - it's hard to define. Angry that such a potentially great team is being short changed with another wasted year?
..."can't play without field position"
FMD the cliches unmask the fraud.
Well I'm afraid if field position is the measure then that has to be earned by a player's blood, sweat & tears over 80 minutes.
It's attritional.
A war
No shortcuts, cameos or luck.
...earned by a coach's astute tactical preparation (and enforcement of the standard by selecting ruthlessly on specific gameplan & form) AND by a CEO appointing a coach capable of winning a premiership - and not a dithering lame duck like we have.
