For the record, Gareth attacked me first.

He made some misguided, pious and vicious statement about me being insensitive and horrible about kids having their faces slashed.

When to be honest, I hadn’t even heard about it and there was no reference in my post about that terrible real world event.

So he read that in to what I posted, he imputed a belief and knowledge to me which I never had.

Tbh was a bit creepy and I called him out ..he refused to apologise or make amends.

Because I had the audaciousness to argue with him, he started studying me looking at where I posted and then trolled me over at Souths lu (which I got bullied off altogether).
Forum asio agent!

I am willing to forgive and forget and hold out the claw of friendship to Gareth and we can get back to general hating.

Whatever his weirdness I remain open and alive to the suggestion that he is a good fellow and a valuable lu contributor.

As a tribute, I may even switch sides and hate Mary for a short period.

I am not smugging out as he asserts! That’s for the Souths lu bullies.

Come home Gareth, if I really offended you, I apologise.
Blah blah blah blah blahhhhhh

Congratulations on reaching 400 pages on this thread! Although once the mods clear out some of the recent crap this will probably revert to page 393.

There’s no doubting JD’s potential and record as an assistant and/or reserves coach and it should/would/does stack up to being given an opportunity in a FG position. However he hasn’t gotten a gig yet - not just dragons but multiple clubs. Makes you Start wondering why.
Well it certainly isn't for poor form....mary couldn't get the cutters to the semis when he coached them.....then he gets the first grade job......what a fu€£!ng joke

Fair point. Broncos preferred Seibold, who took Souths to the finals and got the Burgi all firing but on paper seems to have a lot less experience than JD. Maybe JD has had Bennett's kiss of death.

The simple reason that Demetriou was not thrown the keys is because the decision had already been made (not signed) to appoint McGregor.
So in fact, success, aptitude and performance were not criteria that the decision makers considered when appointing an unqualified coach.
That decision was nothing more than a back room factional deal so that Milward and others could pull the coaching strings.
Can you imagine that Bennett flicked McGregor as soon as he arrived, won 2 minor premierships and a title using his formula and his methodology and we not only re hired McGregor, but gave him the top job to boot.
Bennett showed us the way by being in control.
He had the runs on the board and the experience to take us all the way.
5 years later the McGregor supporters are still trying to prove the doubters wrong.
No tangible results for the club or the fans just frustration and no closer to a title.
Demetriou's stellar success created a problem for the back room boys as it was obvious who the best candidate was.
But that did not deter them one little bit. They pressed ahead with McGregor's appointment anyway. Then extended him and so on.
Something is rotten in Denmark (Kogarah)

Apologies for the discourse

You speak words of wisdom, put simply McGregor not a first grade rugby league coach he was just a fill in when they rightly sacked the chinless bloke but 5 yrs later the fill in is stil there and so are the mediocre results McGregor can't coach should of been sacked after the 2016 debacle his had teams more then capable of achieving his lack of introduction of young talent is disgusting he only makes change when it's forced apon him by injury his not qualified to manage a team to gf players need proper rotation and rest they are not mechanical robots had the dragons not limped imto the finals they would of given the premiership a real shake they owned the roosters on Anzac Day when they where stil fresh had they been managed right they would of owned them as wel in the finals where ever they met

Pretty fair assessment.
The contradiction to our argument is that the players supposedly really rate him and really like him as their coach.
The whole scenario is just nauseating.

You forget to mention it was a 12 team comp with a Top 8 semi final series. What a joke ISP is..should be 16 teams for each NRL side, same with jersy Flegg or the Old Under 20's..gof the NRL and NSWRL have ...f#&%%**..this up

I ask the same question. Apart from the fact he's another rookie coach (albeit with more runs on the board than Mary) he has:

  • Moved on or been moved on from the Cowboys
  • Moved on or been moved on from the Dragons
  • Been rejected for the top job at the Titans
  • Been rejected for the top job at the Broncos
There has to be something more going on here.

I think you are reading too much into it more than no NRL club anymore want to take a chance with a rookie because with the media scrutiny and rehashing and musical chairs of a handful of coaches and the player merry-go-round circus it is too big a risk...the pressure of just making the 8 now is enormous.
Titans are regretting it as were trying to get Wayne, Pay is lucky with a bit more time but they may regret that...Roosters & Souths just got lucky with Robbo / Siebs, Barrett..we all know how that panned out
other than that thats why just handful of the same coaches get talked about and swapped around and even some of those dont have great records recently (Ivan, McGuire & Dessie), they are perceived to be great coaches by the media based on history more than most recently alone.
We have terrible depth of coaching talent at 1st garde level because of pressure no one will get a go and it will get worse. Outside Toovey who now would you want to replace Mary with who is available?..and JD is a rookie may tike time to get a look in.

Long bow drawn there.

Anthony Seibold was also an assistant at 3 NRL clubs before landing his first head coach gig. Sometimes you gotta get lucky. Like Demetriou, he also coached some obsucre clubs in he lower divisions of UK rugby league (Seibold - South Wales, Demetiou - Keighley).

"Moved on from the Cowboys" is not accurate.
He was the assistant coach to Green the year they won the comp.
He moved of his own volition because he was looking for a FG opportunity.
"Moved on from St. George" is also not accurate.
He came to St. George and far exceeded all expectations only to be overlooked for McGregor in what will go down as one of the most misguided factional abominations this club has ever perpetrated.
Once it became evident that he was not going to get the FG gig at St. George, he again left of his own volition.
He was also offered assistant's job at the Bronco's under Bennett.
I don't see how you can misconstrue those set of circumstances as being "moved on".
As for Titans and Broncos. Lots of competition for those jobs.
He must have been close with the Broncos.
Demetriou is a real St. George boy (as opposed to Illawarra). Grew up in the St, George district, played in our lower grades before branching off to a coaching career.
He would have made a massive difference to our fortunes over the last 5 years.
A genuine career coach with lots of runs on the board.
I think he has just been unlucky.
