I do not know which was the first St.George game that I watched. I was certainly aware of the 1965 Grand Final vs Souths. The first game that I can clearly remember watching was a rarity - a Sunday game at the SCG when the Tigers beat us 3-10. Since then 53 years of support through thick and thin.

But Mary and the Board who reappointed him again have now lost me. After almost freezing to death with my family at Wollongong in the Canberra drubbing last month I made a resolution: not another cent spent on the Dragons till this imposter of a coach is gone. I continue to check the team on Tuesday and check the result after full-time. I may watch a Canterbury Cup game. But no NRL till Mary has gone.

You are very perceptive, Dennis, in regards to Bellamy and Bennett. But I just find your use of the word "mediocrity" is far too kind to Mary. To me the word implies an average coach. In my opinion Mary falls far below average or mediocre. I am no strategist so I will just refer to common sense issues like team selection, bench rotation, constant overuse of ineffectual but experienced players over youthful potential and inability to manage the Origin period. On all these issues Mary is not mediocre but poor.
Truth be told, I think McGregor is the worst coach in the NRL.
What I write and what I really feel is sometimes diluted but I share your sentiments 100%.

Mary should go, but he isnt the problem.
He is a poor coach, as was Price and thus nearly a decade of failure.

Unless the board changes direction, then you can expect the same result. I can see it now,.. a poor 2020, and Mary is replaced by assistant coach Barrett.

Price.. Mary... Barrett..
Many people saying "once Mary leaves" I will return, and I get that sentiment. The core problem remains.

I believe McGregor is a shot bird. He will not last. Whether it's this year or early next year.
I agree that the real issue going forward is who will take over?
Barrett has already proven to be unworthy.
Our only chance is a quality coach from outside this cesspool of nepotism with a mandate to build a great team with a genuine pathway for our juniors.

Wont be this year mate, and will take a dismal 2020 early on, for them to pull the plug. Cant , ( as much as I want to ), agree with you that he will be gone.

Your last sentence is spot on the money.

I find it stragely amusing that there has been no mention of Barrett by the club, or in the media for that matter.

Unlike the McGregor saga where we were desperately informed that "other clubs were circling" for his signature, Barrett on the other hand seems unwanted.
The mind boggles as to why?

I just don't see anything different starting next year.
Widdop gone, Graham one year older, same centres - what's going to change?
Maybe it's just wishful thinking...

McIdiot will be gone by round 8 next year. He is incapable of taking the team forward so let all be patient he’ll we have had 5 hard years what’s another 12 weeks going to do. Hopefully by then we are negotiating with a top line experience coach who has won a grand final. When this happens we can have a parade in Wollongong to celebrate the demise of the idiot.

I received an email from the Dragons store yesterday suggesting Father's Day gift ideas. This was my reply:

Is there a "Sack Mary" shirt available yet? Now that would be a popular Father's Day gift!

Sorry, no longer prepared to support the Dragons in any financial way till the appalling McGregor era is over. Please remove me from your email list.

Nothing personal to you guys.

Best wishes....

Your reply was a literary masterpiece and should be published and sent around to all diehard St. George supporters.

I find it most odd that the Dragons gift shop is so professionally run - as a business should be run , to get the best possible results and profits.

Perhaps the old boys brigade could learn a thing or two from those people ?

Remember when posters a few years ago suggested that the coach was a dud and the fade outs typified a bloke out of his depth as the late season losses strung together with monotony?
Some posters suggested that they wanted the club to actually lose games as a precursor for the coach to be sacked.
Such thoughts or suggestions were often met with derision and disgust by “true fans”
Shame we didn’t all get on board back them as we might have avoided the train wreck, plague and pestilence we now endure.
There were some insightful people that were unfortunately berated.

LOL, the memories!
I recall my very first post on this site (must of been just after Mary was given his first contract) was about our incompetent board and that Mary will be a failure. Yep, i was berated:rolleyes:
Years on, my biggest gripes on here are with our incompetent board and our failure of a coach.....a little less berating these days though:D

The idea that 'other clubs were circling ' for McGregor's signature is about as believable as 'we can still make the eight and win the premiership'.

They should all change roles ,gift shop staff to run the club and the board to sell gifts ... Throw in the Chinese cook to coach ....... Can't be any worse than we are now......

Indeed much more chance of seeing someone getting“the chop” with One Hung Low in charge
The backline would be crisp, the forwards beefed up, the bench packed full of all sorts of goodies and the opposition porked and deep fried.
Mc Fookknuckle would be the “dim” & “fortune cookie” part of the staff.

Dim, yes but fortune cookies by definition have vision.
