Hope your right Alex.
But if I was offered 1 million a year I would go wherever the job was.
I wouldn't care if mary was coach or not.

Indeed. We are all so desperate we are looking for signs in our tea leaves that McGregor is going. Hunt is coming for the money, simple as that. If Des or another coach was used as a lure to catch Hunt, it would go against the grain of keeping his deal secret as some have suggested and it would be public knowledge by now.

Saw an interview with widdop the other day at the NRL season launch and he specifically mentioned Nighty is in the leadership group.

Not sure about Mccarthy though. I thought he went back to the ESL.

Nightingale is part of the leadership group.
Mccarthy is cutters captain mybe thats why he would be included.

Which is probably a good indication that someone else already has the first grade coaching gig for 2018 and a few years beyond?
I don't buy it.

Either way, it's a sh*t sandwich.
In the unlikely event there is a coach lined up for 2018, then we are wasting yet another year in 2017.
If there isn't a coach lined up, which I expect, we are royally f*cked unless another miracle falls in Doust's sizeable lap.

Agree Grouch.
The talk of a new coach is just out of desperation and want for change. Hasler, Cleary, JD and even Toovey's name all thrown around as prospective coaches for 2018. The sad truth is that we have probably put all our eggs into McGregor pulling a rabbit from his hat this year which saves everyone from ridicule on the board. It must be remembered that the Dragons aren't the only club with a HC under pressure, you can throw in Manly, WT and of course the Bulldogs. 4 possible vacancies doesn't go into 2 real prospects, so 2 clubs will have to suck it and see with what they have (eg: us with McGregor) or replace from internal resources.
The 2 I'm leaving out are Toovey who just signed with an ESL club as HC and JD, who will more than likely replace Bennett as HC as early as 2018, with Wayne stepping down to a more of a Director role.
The only real scenarios that are obvious are Hasler to Manly and Cleary to the Dogs which leaves us scratching around again and after an exhaustive, world wide search, announce either McGregor extended or Hornby chosen as HC.

Would like to see Tim Sheens given a contract before Mary/Hornby are considered.

Sheens has forgotten more about attacking play than Mary has every dreamed of.

Cannot see Tony Smith being interested given the state of our club finances.

If Cleary was ever in the mix, he should have been appointed before the start of pre-season this year.

The fact that our club let JD walk out the door so easily without a whimper tells me the Head Coaching role for 2018 has been decided. If not, you would have thought someone would have whispered in his ear that McOnionhead will be given his marching orders & we want you to take over. I feel it's been kept confidential to protect all parties or it's complete and utter stupidity....take your pick!!!

I think JD might have been asked to go up north for 12mths as an assistant to Bennett, get nrl experience under his belt & come back as head coach next year to replace mary.

I don't think so Dragon64.....that's like lending your girlfriend to a mate with no guarantee she'll ever come back after a taste of the high life.

Or none of the above, and they reckon Mary will come good, and if he fails the $2 shop option of Hornby or Young as new coach would just about do me in supporting this Club..
It's actually a real chance..as the Club has shown no intent in listening to fans and learning from past mistakes.

I'd be happy with Sheens. God knows why he'd be interested in coming to the Dragons though.

Staring into the tea leaves, here's what I reckon will happen:
Manly will review team performance mid year, will sack Barrett, appoint Cartwright as caretaker then formally table an offer to Hasler which he has probably already informally agreed to.
Dogs will have been negotiating behind the scenes to replace Hasler, and will formally table an offer to Cleary which he has probably already informally agreed to.
Dragons will review the teams performance at the end of the season, will form a committee, look at various options and make Barrett a cheapo offer, which will be accepted because nothing else is available.

In other words its the Lafai scenario except its coaches not centres.

It amazes me that Doust and the board think he's doing a good job. They must if he's still there. FFS!!!!
It makes you wonder whether they actually watch the game or not. To suggest that he still has a future as a coach is insanity and to proceed with him into the season displays just how delusional they are and the lengths they will go to maintain the boys club. The club will never be able to move forward until the management group is replaced or they are able to change their thinking.
