Saddest song

Oh I forgot: Sting - We Dance Alone

Very sad story. Women in Chile would dance in the streets withy pictures of their sons, husbands and fathers murdered by Pinochet pinned to their clothing. The song captures the sadness incredibly well.

Why are there women here dancing on their own?
Why is there this sadness in their eyes?
Why are the soldiers here
Their faces fixed like stone?
I can't see what it is that they dispise
They're dancing with the missing
They're dancing with the dead
They dance with the invisible ones
Their anguish is unsaid
They're dancing with their fathers
They're dancing with their sons
They're dancing with their husbands
They dance alone They dance alone

It's the only form of protest they're allowed
I've seen their silent faces scream so loud
If they were to speak these words they'd go missing too
Another woman on a torture table what else can they do
They're dancing with the missing
They're dancing with the dead
They dance with the invisible ones
Their anguish is unsaid
They're dancing with their fathers
They're dancing with their sons
They're dancing with their husbands
They dance alone They dance alone

One day we'll dance on their graves
One day we'll sing our freedom
One day we'll laugh in our joy
And we'll dance
One day we'll dance on their graves
One day we'll sing our freedom
One day we'll laugh in our joy
And we'll dance

Ellas danzan con los desaparecidos
Ellas danzan con los muertos
Ellas danzan con amores invisibles
Ellas danzan con silenciosa angustia
Danzan con sus pardres
Danzan con sus hijos
Danzan con sus esposos
Ellas danzan solas
Danzan solas

Hey Mr. Pinochet
You've sown a bitter crop
It's foreign money that supports you
One day the money's going to stop
No wages for your torturers
No budget for your guns
Can you think of your own mother
Dancin' with her invisible son
They're dancing with the missing
They're dancing with the dead
They dance with the invisible ones
They're anguish is unsaid
They're dancing with their fathers
They're dancing with their sons
They're dancing with their husbands
They dance alone
They dance alone

I'd be pretty upset if I was listening to any of that too ...

 that's not necessarily my taste, give me a chance...

I read the story about the Mothers of the Disappeared and thought of that one; haven't heard it but remember reading the cover notes for the album

NoFX - She's Gone

A blackened wick is what remains
The flame was blown out just recently
Although the candle hadn't burned down to the stick
It won't be lit again, the day won't be quite as bright
We don't know what she may have been
All we know is what she left behind
An apartment cluttered with children's toys,
Photos of good times
In the bedroom, there's sheets on the windows
There's a four poster bed for a reason
On the floor there's a box full of secrets
It won't be opened
Here older boys and girls would play
All inhibitions were left behind
As the door would close, her face began to shine
This was her finest hour, this was her finest time
Now, she's gone, and it's not gonna be alright, not for me
She's gone, but not forgotten, she's still here
In all those years she touched so many lives
Who's gonna watch the little girl she left behind?
Carol Anne stands alone in the school yard
All the other children have gone
After waiting for hours,
She can't understand why her mother left her sad
In the darkness she sees definition
In the silence, she hears someone calling
After nightmares, she lies in bed screaming
But there's no reaction
There's no one listening, there's no one
Now, she's gone, and it's not gonna be alright, not for me,
She's gone

How could I forget Mothers of the Disappeared.....such a haunting song, very simple. I had to replay it a few times after I first heard it.

"Monday" by the Living End could possibly get a mention, given the subject topic...

Monday, a day like no other
Monday, was their last day
Some say life is a struggle
Some say life should be easy

One day in a peaceful village
School day in working Dunblane
One man could change their whole world
One man is all it took for...

No school today, it's just a memory
One mind gone wrong

I don't want to play on Monday
I don't want to play on Monday
Pinned to my memory, not just another Monday
It feels like such a lie

Change of plans on a rainy day
A new lesson to be learned today
Pack up your guns and your soldiers too
Because one sick mind depends on you

No school today, it's just a memory
One mind gone wrong

I don't want to play on Monday
I don't want to play on Monday
Pinned to my memory, not just another Monday
It feels like such a lie
