Cats in the Cradle - Harry Chapin. You've really gotta listen to him do it live though.

Taxi by Harry Chapin.

...Well another man might have been angry,
And another man might have been hurt,
But another man never would have let her go...
I stashed the bill in my shirt...

Offspring - Gone Away (Ok, I admit it, I like an Offspring song  )

that was before they went all crap though, some of thier older stuff isnt too bad (my brother has all their albums up to 1997, he doesnt like thier stuff from Americana onwards)

but Gone Away is a pretty sad song

F*ck Da Police - NWA

For mine:

Metallica - One
Pearl Jam - Black/Wishlist (in a weird way)/Oceans
Jeff Buckley - The whole Last Goodbye album is one continuous tear jerker but excellent
Radiohead - Creep
2pac - Until the end of time
Pink Floyd - Wish you were here
Ben Folds Five - Brick

Naturally, much of the work from U2 is excellent in this sense as well

Given that the song is actually called Good Riddance, I hope that was no reflection on the deceased.

Pretty much anything by Jeff Buckley, he had this beautiful melancholic voice
Alice In Chains - Down In A Hole (the MTV unplugged version)
The Smiths - Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want
Joy Division - Atmosphere and Heart and Soul
The Whitlams - Kate Kelly
Neil Finn & Eddie Vedder - History Never Repeats
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (how the hell has no-one mentioned this one?)

I'm a big sook - so I think "Seperate Lives" (an old Phil Collins song) is sad.

Good stuff, I thought I was the only one that knew it...
Agreed with Kate Kelly above.
Not the saddest, but Tracy Chapman's 'Fast Car' and Eric Bogle's 'A Reason for it All' might be in this category too. kd lang's 'Barefoot' also has a pretty mournful tune and though it's probably not the most sad sounding song, Offspring's 'Gone Away' isn't the most happy one either. But that's cos most of the ones I'd say have already been taken
