Safety Cameras

So I believe I may have just fallen victim to one of these scummy devices..

I'm in Parramatta and driving to a mcdonalds on Victoria road. I get to the main intersection and decide I'm gonna turn right at church st the light was red so I stopped but then I realized I could get into that McDonalds if I go straight. The light was green to go straight so I put my indicator on to get back in the left lane and go straight.. And all of a sudden a bunch of bright flashes and everyone says the safety camera went off and I'm thinking WTF for I did nothing wrong?

This is a first for me, do you think I have anything to worry about? It's kinda doing my head in worrying about it now when I really shouldn't have to.

You still have 9 points to play with so dont worry

I refuse to accept that, that's admitting I was in the wrong, not to mention the close to $300 fine that comes with it.

I tried to beat an amber light at 2 in the morning with no traffic coming anywhere and got snapped, and you can't miss the flash of light when they take your picture.

Not if - as you say - the light straight ahead was green, and I doubt you'd have been speeding from a standing start
Mustve been someone else

It would have got you as you were in the turning lane to start with. If you drove off in a somewhat straight line with a slight angle to go straight. The machine needs to define what lane you were in. It would have snapped you as you would have breached the no go zone on a right hand turn red light.

But he says he changed lanes, and the light was green

Depends where he changed lanes, IN the intersection - or BEFORE it I guess

I wonder how the camera determines trafic turning right and those going straight and their various permissable signals?

I'm positive I changed before the intersection but it would have been close. I don't know if the camera automatically sends out a ticket or if they review it first but I hope they see what I was doing and nothing eventuates. But I've been told that specific safety camera get a lot of people.

That's my point. If he was at the front of the line waiting to turn right and drove off at an angle of maybe 30 degrees ( wouldn't be 45 degrees) the camera will get him as a car going through the lights in the straight lane would be clear of the right turn fine area. He did something legal (as far as I know) but you can't expect the camera to differentiate given where he came from. There is a line that needs to be created to ensure accurate fines and I think he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

In a nutshell it's bad luck. Don't stress. Cop the fine or fight it. But good luck.

Yeah I initially thought he was behind other traffic waiting to turn thus changing lanes before the intersection, but being at the front might be another story
Was there any cars in front of you jono waiting to turn as well?

Nope. It was a 2 lane right turn just me in one of those lanes and another car to my right.

Had to drive past there again today, just thinking back could have easily been for the oncoming traffic too.

I guess it's a wait and see now but I don't plan on accepting any punishment if it comes my way. I'll keep you guys updated as to what happens.

Bastard of an intersection really......too big and heading the way you were its hard to see other directions at times until youre actually in the intersection
Buses turning left waiting for pedestrians, traffic waiting to turn right, large buildings either side and you have the green = Im always very wary there

safety cameras are there for our safety. you are obviously unsafe

j/k :p

these revenue raising things sh*t me. i have no idea whetehr you got caught but on the radio i keep hearing an ad for notguilty.com.au no idea if they're any good but their ads obviously stuck in my head.

my suggestion for you is to not overthink it right now, wait to see whetehr you get an infringment, then wait to see what specifically they said you did wrong, then you can formulate your defence.

if a lot of other people have been caught on it then there's times someone will organise a class action like defence about it, but thats soemthing to worry about down the track

When you stop at multiple lane intersections the lanes are marked with an unbroken line (probably 20 metres or so before the actual stop line) meaning you can't shift into the lane next to you.

If indeed you do get a fine and decide to take it to court, they'd fine you for crossing the unbroken line.
